Don Hall moderated a fun exploration panel into the artwork of the upcoming Marvel BIG HERO 6. On hand to take part in the discussion and visual exploration was producer Roy Conli, production designer Paul Felix, character designer Shiyoon Kim, visual development artist Lorelay Bove, and visual effects supervisor Kyle Odermatt. There was even a surprised appearance by Ryan Potter, the voice of the film\'s new protagonist: Hiro.
Unfortunately, there was absolutely no photos or video allowed for us to share so we had to turn off our equipment. Inspired by the Marvel comics of the same name,
Big Hero 6 tells the story of robotics prodigy Hiro Hamada who along with a rag-tag group of techie friends and a quirky robot named Baymax, finds himself in the middle of a dangerous plot in the streets of his hometown San Fransokyo.
It\'s somewhat unfortunate to report back on a panel about artwork and not be able to show any of it but there was still a lot of interesting info to be learned from the panel. Among the interesting tidbits we learned...
The new film takes huge artistic license from the original Marvel comics
The fictional city of San Fransokyo in the film was a blend of the lived in feel of San Francisco with the ever-changing, always-new, vibe of Tokyo.
The unique blend of architectural styles between the two cities required a lot of unique buildings for a large city. To help with this, designers created several architectural elements for buildings that custom-created City Builder software could then take and use to generate hundreds of unique buildings.
The look and feel of Baymax was researched at a variety of medical and robotics labs including Harvard, MIT, and Carnegie Mellon. Nursing robots with inflatable skins ended up being the inspiration for the cuddly robot.
John Lassetter liked the idea of Baymax only having eyes and emoting with just that feature. Using camera lenses for the eyes, animators were able to create the full range of emotions for the character without having a mouth or eyebrows to use for his expressions.
To get Baymax\'s walk to the appropriate cute level, animators referenced a variety of reference footage include toddlers and baby penguins.

First look: INTO THE WOODS trailer and stills
INTO THE WOODS released its first official trailer along with new stills revealing several of the film\'s enchanted characters. The star-packed musical follows the classic tale of several well-known stories, twisted into a new story.
INTO THE WOODS makes a Christmas Day debut in theaters
GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY is NOT going to do great at the box office. It\'s going to DOMINATE the box office. The little story that nobody but comic-geeks had heard of might have started out with mild uninterested buzz but that will quickly change once the first audiences start to pour out of theaters nationwide.
GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY is a great movie. At the risk of over-hyping it, I\'d say that it ranks towards the top of my favorite Marvel films. In traditional Marvel fashion, it fires on all cylinders offering a little bit for everybody.... read more
