Authors note: okay, so I usually upload my stuff to the Azula club, so if u guys like it, go check it out! :) This one is a bit sad, but strangely happy in the end.

The room was quiet. Not a sound could be heard. Only the darkness was there to wish a 12-year-old Azula a happy birthday. Father was out on another business trip, and it had been made very clear that Mother did not want to see her tonight. That was why she was in this lonely room in the first place, and that was also why Azula had barricaded the door shut.

She was not sure exactly what she had done to receive such punishment, but that wasn't the point. This always happened, even when her father was home. Azula was used to this. Tonight would be different, however.

As she opened the window, a warm breeze came over her face. It was the kind one could only feel in the fogo Nation. "That's nice.", she thought. "I hope the guests are enjoying their dinner." Tonight was her birthday after all, and Azula still wanted to do something other than stay locked in her room.

Without a moment's notice, a profound sadness made its way into the young princess. As she looked out of the window over the royal courtyard, a disturbing thought crawled into her mind. "Why don't I just jump? Nobody will even know I left. Forever." She began to weep softly.

There came a knock on the door. Azula waited for it to stop, but it never did. "Who is it? Go away!" The voice was very familiar and held the decadent affection of a sympathetic friend. "It's me, Ty Lee. Would you like anything? I know it must be hard to be alone on you--" Azula interrupted before she could finish her sentence. "Go away! I don't want to see you!" Ty Lee said nothing. Azula heard the girl's sobs as she ran down the hallway.

Azula began to feel even worse than before. Why had she acted that way to her friend? It was the way she had always acted when she felt this way. It was the only way she knew, and it was the only way she had been treated. Tonight was still her birthday, but Azula didn't care. She didn't want to see anyone, especially Mother or Ty Lee. With a few suppressed cries, Azula walked back over to the still open window. The warm breeze had become an angry and forceful wind. Azula felt her face. It was soaked with the vestige of fresh tears. "Not tonight.", she said, "It's my birthday."
Avatar: The Last Airbender left several loose ends and unanswered perguntas that the Legend of Korra had no choice but to disprove. With the Netflix live action Last Airbender show on the horizon, we thought we’d talk about....

Azul is Spanish and Portuguese for blue, possibly a reference to Azula's Firebending.
Her name may also come from the Sanskrit term Asura, a Hindu term for demon.
Azula's name was originally going to be "Zula".

In some avatar comics, her name is mispelled "Takara" instead of "Katara".
Katara's voice actor, Mae Whitman, has previously played the part as Rose in American Dragon: Jake Long.

The Southern Air Temple is the only episode in which the título screen, which denotes the chapter and book, does not have a white background (the background is the sunrise).
