I find homework to be arrogant and inefficient. Schools think they are so important that they can dictate whether or not the kid can have time after school for other, also important things. yeah, we learned all this in class and some kids didn't get it, but first of all, it is not like nobody else in the class understood it, segundo of all, they won’t get it any better without a teacher to help, and third of all, if they care enough to get anything out of their education anyway, they will ask somebody for help.
Of course, there are classes in which homework makes sense, such as my AP world history class where they are trying to shove a two ano class into one year, as long as you can get the right help on the homework, and then it will help and benefit all of the students, and the teachers. Ironically though, my AP world history class didn’t assign as much homework as my honours science class today, on most days the AP world history class will assign us a few pages to read in the text book, but the honours science class assigned a page on how to set up experiments, as well as a paragraph demonstrating our ability to cite things on a paper (Something my English class taught us last year, and the ano before that, and so on back a couple of years.) So my pergunta is, why is the honours class assigning mais homework than my AP class? And why is it all just repeats?
Now, we both know that there are kids in classes that just don’t get it, but there are also kids out of those that don’t even care, the ones that don’t care are doomed to failure anyway unless they change fast, so they then don’t need the material that they will get nothing out of anyway. There are however kids that do try, but they don’t get it and you would think ideally that they would benefit from this sort of thing, but those kids can get after school, after class, online, parent, tutor help and other things, there is no need to assume that none of the kids in the class try and actually get it like they seem to. I for one understood the scientific theory enough to set up an experiment, but had I not I would have asked my dad for help. Had I not cared I would fail the class anyway, heck, had I not cared, I would not have been put in an honours science class.
The time that I spend on homework on an average dia can range a lot, but the extremes that it goes to can cause some students to work all dia at something they don’t need, when they could be spending that time bonding with family and friends. I got início just today after Japanese club, and a cardiologist appointment, both where mandatory, and had a lot of homework, I could have been in the front room watching a movie with my dad and having a discussion afterwards as we will sometimes do, and my brother probably would have joined in, making good constructive socializing time with them, but I was stuck in my room working on a science work sheet that covered material that not only did they cover in class, but in every science class I have ever been in. Needless to say that homework assignment was redundant.
Please don’t tell me that you think that being with your family, or your friends, or your girlfriend, boyfriend, fiancé, husband, wife, ECT is not important, but at the same time it shouldn’t consume all of your time, but you have what, 6 hours out of 24 for school, around 9 or 10 for sleep leaving 8 or so for everything else, that includes clubs, recreation, stress relief, doctors appointments, friends, love, or whatever you do with your time, all of that has to be balanced in that last 8 hours. What happens when you spend 2 hours mais for school, not only will it stress you out, but it reduces that 8 to a 6, meaning say you have a club, you do some kind of recreation, you have to spend time with friends or a lover, while still having time to ready for each thing, have time to yourself, and prepare for bed, that leaves less than an hora to do each thing.
mais an mais in American high schools, mais and mais homework is getting assigned, there is so much a student has to take início that backpacks are weighing mais than 50 pounds, and some even have to bring mais than one backpack to school, this is partially due to the size of the text books, but those kids wouldn’t even have to bring their text books início had they not any homework. Now imagine having to carry a 50 pound bag and another 25 pound bag to school and back every dia as well as between classes, and that is beside the jaqueta with 8 pounds of supplies, that is a total of 83 pounds on a person’s shoulders. And that person is likely 15 to 18 years old. That can me mais than twice the weight of chain mail armour that would have been worn por a knight! And our students are carrying the weight of two suits of chain mail with the weight all concentrated on their shoulders. What aspect of homework justifies this?
