Chapter 5
“What? You aren’t happy to see me?” The voice shattered in Marlene’s ears. She felt herself tighten her grip and widened her eyes. She couldn’t believe it. It was her evil step father. She could only see a flash back.
[~Flashback~]
“Dad…what are you doing?” Young Marlene, or as she used to be named, Martinik, walked slowly towards her new dad as he packed up a couple of things in a small box. He looked back at her and frowned. He never liked Marlene. She was the only thing that made his marriage with Marlene’s mom, Bethany, terrible.
Marlene was always a very perky otter, but she was annoying to him because she did tend to eat, cry, or talk a lot as a young girl. Marlene knew that her father didn’t like her well, but she still tried to be nice to him, even if it didn’t work.
“None of your business, you hooligan.” Her Stepfather replied in a stiff tone, his cold blue eyes ripping apart her insides. Her coração always seemed to tear when he made a rude comment like that.
“But…I would really like to know. You seem to be putting most of my things in there, father.” Marlene felt a tear peek out of one of her big eyes. They looked blue at the moment because of the reflection of the tears and her stepfather’s eyes.
“I’m sorry, Martinik. We just can’t keep you anymore, honey. I amor you…but your father. He…doesn’t enjoy your presence at times...” Bethany tried to explain. She was dying inside for her daughter, but she remembered that her new husband, Richard, threatened to divorce her if she didn’t get rid of her. Bethany had been single for a long time, and didn’t want to lose him.
“But, Mom. I-“ Martinik tried talking her mom into letting her stay home. She didn’t want to lose the closest thing she had. Her mom. But it was worthless. Richard pressed the box against her chest and she held it up with her arms.
She climbed over the short black fence of the lontra habitat, in the zoo of Northern California, and sobbed a little. She knew life wouldn’t be the same. She walked out into the city and made her way East, towards New York, where she knew someone. Her name was Doris, and she was a golfinho that she befriended in that same zoo, but was moved to New York along with her father.
‘I will just find a bus to New York and as soon as I get there, I’ll find the zoo, somehow’ Martinik thought. ‘Name change is required…Marlene. Like my mom’s segundo name.’ She thought once more. She would now be known as Marlene.
Luckily, the journey didn’t take as long as she expected, and when she go to the zoo, Doris recognized her, but they had been separated for so long that they didn’t talk as much anymore. And then she met the penguins.
[~Flashback Over~]
“Umm…father. What are you doing here?” Marlene swallowed thickly and her eyes began blinking quickly. She felt like crying, but she just couldn’t seem like such a fool in front of one of her #1 enemies. He had ruined her life, but in way brought certain blessings, including having her mover to the zoo where she made REALLY good friends.
“Well, I came here to notify you that your mother has just died. She begged me to come tell you this as soon as she died. And of course I did. But honey, let’s talk about you now. You grew up fast, didn’t you?” Her stepfather said as he pulled on her arms, attempting a hug. Marlene pulled back and sighed.
“Mom died?” She felt one tear slip out, but that was it. She loved her mother, but her mother obviously didn’t amor her enough to choose her over her father, so Marlene still held the grudge.
“Yes, my sweet Martinik. She died.” Richard pulled on her arm again and hugged her tightly once more. “But let’s forget about that matter for a sec, here. Alright? I need a new wife and I’m sure you’d be interested.”
Marlene gasped.
“Uh…It’s Marlene now, and um. No thank you. Plus, I thought you hated me…” Marlene turned away and tried to get as a far away as possible. She couldn’t believe that as soon as her mother had died, her stepfather was attempting to marry his stepdaughter.
“Well, MARLENE. You were young, but now that I see you’ve grown, I notice how beautiful you are.” Richard scooted closer.
Marlene was beginning to feel really uncomfortable. She knew what she would do.
“Um…Well…the thing is…I…have a…boyfriend.” Marlene told Richard.
His eyes widened and her grabbed her paw.
“Oh well, Of course you do. I mean, what kind of man would be able to keep his paws off you, huh? Beautiful. Like your mother.” Richard looked at her and smiled slyly. “So, who is this lucky fellar?”
“Well, you see…he doesn’t exactly have paws…and…his name is…” Marlene thought in her head. She had heard the penguins leave when Private had said “BYE RICO, SEE YOU IN 1 MONTH! WE ARE OFF TO ANTARCTICA!” Marlene didn’t care much, but now she knew who to pick. “His name is…uh…Rico.” Marlene blushed.
“Oh well, shall we go see him?” Richard placed his paws on his hips.
“Yeah…Once segundo though.” Marlene ran as fast as she could to the penguins habitat. She ran through the door and bumped into something. She fell to the ground and she opened her eyes. What she was none other that Rico.
“Uh…?” Rico questioned. Marlene just panicked.
“Look, Rico. I have little time to explain, so I’ll tell you the basics. You know my stepfather? The one that I told you that made me leave início because he didn’t want me there anymore? He came to tell me that my mother has died and he now wants to marry me for some reason. To prevent that from happening, I told him that you were my boyfriend. OK?” Marlene yelled into his face. Rico’s eyes were wide open from shock and then he blinked and looked down, and began blushing. Marlene was on topo, início of him.
Marlene began blushing and quickly began pulling herself up.
“Um…Sorry. Now, you get the plan?” Marlene whispered.
“Yup.” Rico nodded and smiled.
He looks so cute when he smiles. Marlene thought. She shook her head and walked out to go the her stepfather, and if she couldn’t convince him, her new husband. She knew that if she didn’t marry him, he would harm someone.
Author’s Note: WOW. I was pretty confused trying to see who the person that she heard could be. I was going to make it be blowhole, but since that whole blowhole special thing is coming up, I just lost the feeling…Anywho…Yeah. I hope you enjoyed this chapter. PLEASE! PLEASE REVIEW!
