Kim Soo Hyun to continue his controversial CF modeling with China\'s Hongda Bingchuan

Despite requests to cancel his CF contract with Chinese mineral water brand, Hongda Bingchuan, after controversy arose over their naming their source as Changbai Mountain instead of Korean landscape, Baekdu-san, Kim Soo Hyun will be continuing on as the model.  

Key East Entertainment, released an official statement on June 25:

"After discussions between China\'s Hongda Group and Key East, we\'ve come to the conclusion that rather than arriving at an extreme conclusion, we would take all responsibility for the promise we made based on mutual faith.

Kim Soo Hyun was able to become the model for this product in question as the Hongda Group positively viewed the hot response to Kim Soo Hyun in China and had expectations for his high efficacy in endorsements, all through the reigniting of Hallyu at the moment for Chinese and Korean content; therefore, they requested to appoint him as the model.

Both Hongda Group and Key East view that it is necessary to have more exchanges and amicable cooperation using both countries\' deep trust and understanding as the foundation; we both acknowledge and understand that there was no political intention in relation to the writing of the water source site for the mineral water produced and sold by Hongda Group in China.  We only hope that there will be no more misunderstandings or speculations."

I\'m not against KSH but I don\'t support him either. A lot of people in comments don\'t seem to understand. Now, I\'m not insulting everybody it\'s just that a lot of people don\'t know how our Korean minds work. It\'s incredibly stupid to say that "well North Korea and South Korea can just unite". It\'s not as simple as that and it\'s pretty hard to explain and only Koreans can understand why KSH is receiving flak for his actions. 

I\'m willing to hear an explanation as to why so much hatred is being thrown towards China and Kim Soo hyun. I\'m all ears. :)

Though what he is doing is nothing wrong and the border is within China, is the fact that the media is targeting him as a traitor. Honestly even he is doing nothing wrong this might affect his career, he should have cancelled this CF. Imagine if some other celebrity become huge in Japan and started advertising something made in Dokdo but for a Japanese product, all hell would break lose. Koreans are very sensitive about these types of issues even if the land/traditions isn\'t technically theirs, they\'ll make a huge deal out of it because of their strong Korean pride. I am just hoping this doesn\'t get out of hand because he\'s really talented.

But the mountains are in North Korea, why is South Korea caring so much? Seems like they just like stirring up controversy to me.

@blueangelay According to the map, it\'s not. It\'s one large area of mountains that\'s divided by the border. I guess Koreans feel that since it lays more in Korea in general, it\'s theirs. It\'s best to ignore these people. They\'re the same ones who said to NOT use "Sea of Japan" but instead use East Sea. It all has to do with power. It\'s sad what some people have become.

@zipZAPP Yes, sorry. :) I think Changbai mountain is the border from what I read. Therefore, it\'s split in two. :) Thanks, I will learn to ignore them. I\'m a debater though... so sometimes, I like arguing using facts. lol. ^_^ Thanks for the clarification though!

I really don\'t get this. Seems like K netizens are making a huge fuss out of nothing, yet AGAIN. It\'s so difficult to be a star in South Korea. You make one tiny tiny mistake (and it wasn\'t even a mistake in this case, least of all Kim Soohyun didn\'t do anything wrong) and you\'re hated and asked to leave your home country. Shows how much love you get from your own people... and S Koreans always brag about their loyalty and unity... yup, can totally see that! Or not.

As far as i know that mountain is part of both countries (culturally and physically, north part of korea), it just has a different name. People is overracting.

@lulzbrooks I also did some research. And it seems North Korea and South Korea do not have an on-off relationship. It is always off judged by South Korea still drafting men into the army, Kim Jong Un still supposedly making planes to reunite Korea, and the border still being strictly guarded. May you provide proof of when South Korea and North Korea have had an on relationship in say the last 5 years?

Only some Koreans are mad at him for taking an ad that favors "claims" of this mountain being part of China since it used Changbai instead of Baekdu.
