harry potter Pergunta

Do you believe that you can only be a Harry Potter fã if you have read all of the books?

I was having this conversation with my mum yesterday afternoon. She said that she didnt understand how I could be a REAL HP fã because I have never read all 7 books.

I have read the first 4 and am currently half-way through OotP and thoroughly enjoying it, but I dont agree that you have to read all of the books because leitura isnt for everybody.

I first saw HP and the Philosophers Stone when I was 6 and didnt begin leitura the books till about 9 yet I am an avid fan.

What do you think??

I think if you are a real fã you should read the books. You can be a fã of the filmes but if you are a fã of Harry Potter you read the book because that is the really Harry Potter.
What I get from your comment you are a real HP fã because you are trying to read the books and maybe even want to read all of them.

To those people who complains about that they can't read for some reasons, there is a reason there is audio books. I have read and "read" all of the books myself several times (16/7 times, the last one only 6 times). I even learn to read properly from HP but I do listen to the audio books sometimes because I don't like to read so much anymore like I did before, so today I try to walk so much as possible and in the mean time I listen to the books. English isn't my first language but I listen to them in English because I amor his voice, I mean he really brings the characters alive. And when I listen to them in English, I improve english at the same time.
I really enjoy that.

I was never much of a reader and the HP books are the only books that I have ever actually been able to read and enjoy! So I guess that says something! But I totally agree with your answer in that leitura them not only gives you a better understanding of the series but (for you) they help you learn which is what a lot of others, including my mum (-_-) don't really understand.

It's the same for me, it's the only books I have really read. Sure, I have read many others books too for school and so (I've even read Twilight series) but not like I have read HP, it's the only book I can read over and over again. One time I read all of them in one week (DH wasn't out yet). And know I listen to them so I can go outside with my dog and other stuff. HP is the reason I read when I read. It was even the first book I read in English.

You can be a fã at any time, even just watching the movies. However, to be a true, die-hard fan, you have to read the books. But you're already leitura the books, so if you continue to amor them and read them, then you're perfectly die-hard :)

I didn't read the comments before so Sorry if I repeat anyone.

Personnally I have read all the books and I've seen all the filmes but I just consider myself just as a fan.
I don't believe of the crap and I repeat clearly myself THE crap other fãs or people call "TRUE FAN" it doesn't exist such a thing or person or group of persons.
It's just a damn way to separate us and to make people feel bad just because they only like the books or only likes the movies.
For me you are A fã because you like what you read or watched or both, that is a fan.
Being a fã is just liking the books or just one book or one movie. People who say: "True fãs blablabla" just wants to give themselves some importance. I don't see the big deal about it. We're all HP fãs and we're all equal just por that.
True fã stuff is just BS.

If you ask me, the answer is simple. You can be a fã if you haven't read the books. But you can not fully appreciate the beauty held in Harry Potter. So basically what I'm saying is this: you are a fan. Not a true fan. When you've read all the books though...that's a different story.

At least you aren't one of those people who watches the filmes then reads the first two pages of the first book and say, "I don't like it. It's stupid." Hope you finish them soon!

My Sister and Brother didn't start leitura the books until they saw the films. And my Mother, who has seen all the movies, has never once picked up a Harry Potter book, and she calls her self a "Die-hard" fan.

Maybe to some people that would mean you're not a true fan. But who cares what they think? What matters most is what you think...

I don't agree with your mom at all. Being a 'real' fã of anything is subjective. I've seen all the moves, read all the books -- starting when they first came out --, been to almost all the midnight releases, dressed up as characters, and had themed parties. But I don't have the books on tape, and hardly have any memorabilia, and some might say that I'm not a 'real fan.'

A real fã is someone who loves the series, regardless of whether they've read all the books, seen all the movies, only got into it because of certain actors or movies, or got into it once it got 'popular.' The way I see it: if someone tells you you're not a real fã because you didn't do what they've done, they're just trying to make themselves look and feel better por making you look small.

You amor the series -- that's all that matters.

I think that's a minimum, as everything started there, in the books. There might have been no movies, yet the books are still there.

The filmes are great and in so many aspects, they convey what the atmosphere of the books fairly well. Plus the cast is just wonderful. I encourage my students in the English language to watch the filmes because they are an highly enjoyable way to improve English, thanks to the impeccable diction of some of the actors.

However, the filmes could not tell everything. Many important subplots have been discarded. The books are far richer and it's a pity not to read them.

I agree, I have only read the first four fully but they missed out so much in the movies, and JK goes into so much detail on every little thing that it really would be a pity not to read them.

Yes, the books are also a great way to read in English for students of the language. Besides, the HP books have been translated in many languages. No excuse not to read them !

I know right, I never really liked Snape until I (looked through the last couple of books, shhhh!) and read some of the chapters. They missed out a lot in the filmes that really could have made Severus a much less misunderstood character.

BlackHound said:
You certainly can be a real HP fã without leitura the books, but you're cheating yourself if you don't read them. The filmes are great, sure, but they pale in comparison to what JK Rowling wrote. When you watch the movies, you're only getting maybe a quarter of the story, and you're getting someone else's vision of it. Only when you read the books do you get the whole story, and you can make your own movie in your mind. You have your own vision of the story, and I think that's far mais valuable.

And honestly, you don't really know the true depth of the characters if you don't read them. And if you never read the books, then you will never truly understand how brave, how awesome was our Potions Master, or how great was his sacrifice, because the filmes do not do Severus Snape justice. Alan Rickman does, have no doubt, but the films just don't.

And if you're a fã of Sirius Black and Remus Lupin, as I am (passionately), you'll never really know them if you don't read the books. Because the filmes trivialize them terribly.

If you never read the books, you'll never meet Peeves, and that would just be sad, because he's such a wicked little guy. I amor him. ;)

Read the books. You'll be glad you did.

I don't think you have to read the books to be a fan. I have several friends that like the filmes and have never picked up one of the books in their lives. That being said, I always encourage people to read the books. They have so many awesome moments in them that, unfortunately, never made it to the big screen. It takes longer to read a book than to watch a movie, but the books are totally worth reading. You can't get a full understanding of the magical world and of Harry's story if you just watch the movies.
