Location filming begins with Trystane and Myrcella, despite the rain in Spain 

Spain was chosen to stand in for the warm desert-like region of Dorne, but you wouldn’t know it from the rain in the country today. However that didn’t stop

from shooting, despite some questions as to whether cameras would roll once the poor weather forecast became known.

, the show started shooting at 6 in the morning. Extras were present, taking on the roles of soldiers and servants, many people clad in Martell orange.

This Croatian TV report holds an interesting bit of info. Around the 1:44 mark, Conleth Hill in Varys costume is spotted at the Villa Sheherezade, around the distinctive gate. Crews were seen in the area of the villa in early October. Boxes were seen outside the villa marked “Illyrio’s,” hinting that the show is headed back to Pentos to see Magister Illyrio Mopatis.

Anyway, it is good that the filming info keeps rolling in. I hope there are a lot more from Spain over the next few weeks, and we get some decent glimpses of Doran, Areo and the Sand Snakes.

Illyrio’s part is minor enough that if they couldn’t get him back I think they’d just cut it and send Tyrion and Varys straight to Volantis. His appearance is only important in that it adds continuity, so if you’re going to break continuity with a recast, why bother?

Also, I was always pretty critical of the Myrcella recast, but the pics of Nell here with her hair done in Myrcella’s wavier style actually look pretty good. I could actually see more casual viewers failing to notice the recast at all.

I’d guess no recast, or someone would have heard something about it, by now. Maybe that’s just wishful thinking. Anyway, as people have already said, he could certainly be reprising his role, but only appearing in indoor scenes, so he would be needed in Croatia. Flights from London to Dubrovnik are under 3 hours long, so to fly him down and back in time for his next performance 7:30 Tuesday night, while cutting it close, would not be impossible.

Ah, I thought the video showing Conleth was from the last couple of days, which is why I said what I said. I suppose I should have checked to see what date it was that Conleth was spotted, first. My bad.

This idea that an actor/actress is a “thing” that one just pack and beam it wherever that it suits the phantasies of the fans is really upsetting. As if an actor/actress does not need time in between different projects, rehearsals, preparation in terms of costume fitting and make up, sleep etc… even if a part of preparations have been done in advance it sounds inhuman.

I’m tired of every scene being filmed against a perfect, clear blue sky in every part of the world. Weather is varied, people!

Given I was the one suggesting he has an extra day off, so getting to Dubrovnik and back (if the dates aligned, which it turns out they didn’t) was plausible, my statement had nothing to do with seeing actors as “things,” nor anything about fulfilling any sort of fantasy. Instead, it stems from having first-hand knowledge of the schedules actors sometimes keep, and the crazy things they sometimes have to do. I was involved in a production wherein the lead actor was performing on the west coast, and had to fly to New York for one day to do a read through for his next project, then make it back to the west coast for the next round of performances…just as one example.

It might be an Internet Explorer problem because I just checked on google chrome and the Varys video was not obscured by the Nell instagram pic. (A message to my past self).

Aye. I don’t know whether Allam in particular is such a busy bee that he’d be willing to fly somewhere to shoot for a day on his days off from a play…but there are actors who are even busier bees than that.

Littlefinger meets Lancel in episode 4 according to TrystanSnow from the ASOIAF post. Sounds like Sansa is left alone pretty early on in the season. My guess is that Littlefinger is in for a surprise when he returns to the Vale…. (not sure of the nature of the surprise, though).

You guys ever feel like maybe you’d enjoy the show more if you stopped looking at all these pictures and predicting what happens in every episode?

I’m starting to feel that way. Like I just don’t want to know anything more until it premieres.

I want to know stuff so I don’t rage when I see stuff onscreen that I don’t like. I need to be well prepared etc etc

I just picked up on your comment in this post because it had been repeated many, many times by other commentators in a previous one. It somehow sounds inhuman. In any case I think it is highly impossible to recast such a good actor as Allam and thus to impose an anxiety on this matter is just pointless unless the opposite is evidently the case which is something to be seen in due time.

Nell looks enough like Aimee Richardson that I don’t really mind the recast, as long as she can act well.

Acting ability is likely the reason for the recast in the first place.

I really hope the show creates some scenes between Varys And Illyrio. We need more Varys. There’s been too little of him the past two seasons.

i think nell will be a fine myrcella…she looks more of what i had in mind when reading anyways…aimee was great with what they gave her…but nell looks more like a younger cercei…im excited…beginning to embrace the changes and just totally separate the two so ic an just sit back and enjoy

Honestly, I’d enjoy the show tons more (though changes WOULD disappoint me) but the offseason speculation/filming news is half the fun. I won’t be doing it as often next year, though. Next year filming news will be pure spoilers all around.

I think it would be very fitting if they just decide to kill her off- especially since the Maggy the Frogg prophecy is included. It’d be pretty horrifying, so in line with the show. That said, we don’t have a Darkstar and I don’t like other suggestions very much (such as Obara doing it when their plot fails). In any case, with the news that the big fight scene in Dorne takes place in the Water Gardens rather than out in the desert, I’m beginning to doubt that there’ll be a Queenmaker plot at all. We’ll see.

God I’m looking forward to everything KL related next season.

It’s funny, when I first started reading Feast the first time around, my reaction to getting Cersei chapters was pretty much: “Ughh not again, can we please just skip to more Arya??” But looking back, all of the drama and tension that unfolds makes it one of the strongest (and one of my favorite) plot lines from that book.
