 For true amor conquers all!
For true love conquers all!
Hello, everyone! Hope you're all enjoying September.

Seeing as Aurora is my favorito disney princess, you can imagine how happy I was when I found out that she’s our September '14 Princess of the Month.

So, unable to fight a triumphant smile, I went over to the pesquisas section, where I saw one called “*~Princess of the mês September 2014 is……... Aurora!~*” It was then that I noticed the results…

What?’ I thought. ‘But… that means six people voted for boo!’

As hard as that was for me to accept, I resolved to brush it off and write an artigo about my beloved princess before the month’s end, an artigo that would hopefully change some opinions and clear things up a bit about our mysterious PotM. This is that article, at long last. Without further ado…

~All About Aurora~

Appearance

We are all familiar with Aurora’s classic look, with the big blonde hair, cat eyes, and angular features, but many people find themselves wondering how she got there.

Originally, disney toyed around with the idea of making her a brunette, but ended up going with blonde hair because—in his opinion—they didn’t have a blonde princess yet (sorry, Cindy, but your hair is too red). But why did Walt and the animators even think of brown hair?

 The lovely Audrey Hepburn
The lovely Audrey Hepburn

The answer is simple: Audrey Hepburn.

As surprisingly few people know, my namesake was used as inspiration for Aurora’s character design. And really, once one gets past the hair color difference, the similarities are striking: lithe figures, those same cat eyes, dramatic eyebrows, delicate mouths, and so on.

Moreover, both Audrey and Aurora have an indescribable grace and elegance to them when moving around. Perhaps it comes from their experience in dance?

In terms of ranking Aurora’s attractiveness, she’s a very polarizing figure. The three good fadas bestowed on her the gift of beauty, and she is the “Sleeping Beauty” that the título refers to. But it appears that some people can’t get past the incredibly angular animation.

On the opposite side of the spectrum are the countless lists ranking Aurora as Disney’s most beautiful animated character. Which side do YOU fall on?

Personality

I know that many of you think Aurora doesn’t even have a personality, or that she has a very simple one. Well, I politely disagree on both counts.

Aurora—or Briar Rose, as she was raised to think—has a surprisingly layered personality, given her screen time. Within her famous 18 minutes, we see a mature young woman who obeys her aunts but dreams of much more. Yearning for human companionship, Briar Rose spends a lot of time in the woods, where she observes animal behavior and indulges in her hobbies of cantar and dancing.

She obviously knows the animais very well, which implies that she desperately wants socialization and, in the absence thereof, is doing the seguinte best thing (in this case, playing with woodland creatures). Aurora may be shy and socially awkward, but she doesn’t want to be. In her dreams, she’s a coy and confident girl who has captured the coração of a prince.

Whenever I see people pinning her as an introvert, I always end up contemplating it myself. Is she really an introvert, who gets energy from being alone, or a sheltered extrovert making the best of an unstimulating situation? Remember, extroverts aren’t necessarily outgoing. An argument could be made for either type, which flags her as an ambivert, in my opinion: both introvert and extrovert. Aurora has all the social need of an extrovert combined with the introvert’s perceptive nature.

On topo, início of that, Aurora shows a sense of responsibility when she plans to have Phillip meet her at início with her ‘aunts’. Instead of riding off into the sunset with her handsome stranger, she wants to get to know him better in a controlled setting, under the supervision of her family.

Her maturity also comes into play when Aurora has to abandon those exact plans. Sure, she cries, but wouldn’t you cry if you found out that your entire life was a lie? She has a realistic emotional response.

And really, choosing to go to the castelo and fulfill her duty as princess could not have been easy. But she knew that everybody was counting on her and that she had to put her own wants aside for the benefit of everyone else. That’s self-sacrifice done the right way.

In short: dreamy, romantic, shy, desperate for human interaction, an adept singer and dancer, obedient, responsible, mature, emotional, and self-sacrificing, with a secret flirtatious side.

So please, don’t be that person who says, “But all Aurora ever did was sleep.” While she does indeed sleep during her movie, that’s far from her defining characteristic.

I hope you enjoyed my article! Thanks for reading. :)

It is no secret the Disney’s Princess franchise is one of the most lucrative for young children today. It is the number one girls’ toy brand in the US and made profits of $4 billion in worldwide sales. Therefore, these characters are going to be role modelos for countless girls across the world. I want to look at what lessons children can take from these characters and stories that will be positive and why each of these characters can be a positive role model to girls- and boys, for that matter- of any age.
