This is the segundo of a set of reviews and analyses that I will be doing on each disney Princess movie. I will try to be as unbiased and analytical as possible. I watch the movie so that it is fresh in my mind, and review 10 categories: the princess, the prince, the couple, the villain, other characters, the plot, animation, songs, score, and mood. I then give each category a score out of 10, then the movie as a whole receives a total score out of 100. All categories contribute equally to the final score.

 The definition of princess
The definition of princess
Princess – Cinderella
cinderela is the definition of princess, and it is no wonder her image instantly comes to mind when someone says “princess”. She is “ever gentle and kind” to everyone she meets, even Lucifer, and even when she is mad, she remains kind. She is forever hopeful and dreamy, and she remains strong despite her terrible treatment and living conditions. She is poised, patient, and ever-grateful for her good fortune. She is also quite clever, and she looks for the good in everything. Her “bad” side shows when she is sarcastic and snarky, and she has a habit of losing her shoes (3 times in the movie). As cinderela is such a good character and role model, she earns a score of 10.

 Underdeveloped
Underdeveloped
Prince – Charming
Charming, although good-looking, is not the best character. He is quite underdeveloped, and two-dimensional. From what we see of him, it seems that he values a girl’s looks over her personality. He is forgetful, but really, how can you forget the face of the girl you danced with all night, and never ask her name?! For his poor development, Charming earns a score of 5.

 Rushed development
Rushed development
The Couple
Their first meeting is quite conventional of princess stories, but that doesn’t make it any less sweet. The relationship is not given enough time to develop, yet somehow after mere hours of dancing together, both know that they are each other’s perfect match. They seem to go from amor interests to married too quickly, but it is a happy ending for both of them. This couple therefore earns a score of 6.

 That face...
That face...
Villain – Lady Tremaine
Tremaine is not the best villain. She was chosen as Cinderella’s step-mother because she was of “good family”, not because Cindy’s father saw anything lovable in her. She is impatient, and gives orders like it is going out of fashion. She makes really unfair deals with Cinderella, and is quite envious of her step-daughter’s natural beauty and charm. To be completely honest, sometimes it seems that Lucifer is mais of a villain than Tremaine, because he actually takes action, rather than just plotting. Tremaine therefore earns a score of 6.

 Annoying but helpful
Annoying but helpful
Other Characters
I find that the mice in general are annoying, especially their voices, but they’re also quite helpful and they have their hearts in the right place. The birds are also quite helpful, yet not so annoying. Jaq stands out because he is clever and brave, but Gus stands out because he is greedy and idiotic.
The step-sisters are impatient, give orders in a similar fashion to their mother, are immature, selfish, envious, and they take this envy out on cinderela por teasing her. They are also quite terrible at music, yet are mais developed characters than Charming.
The King care’s about his son’s future, and who will amor him and provide children. He is a romantic, and has romantic dreams for his son.
The Fairy Godmother is a true mother figure for Cinderella, although slightly strange. She is extremely kind, and knows how to respond to Cinderella’s heartache.
Overall, the secondary characters are bearable, so they earn a score of 6.

Plot
The plot of the movie mostly follows the original plot, except there are some details missing, such as the fact that the ball went over three nights, and cinderela wore a different, mais beautiful dress each night. As always, there are the classic disney twists. The progression of the movie was comfortable, and no particular events felt rushed or to go on too long. The plot therefore earns a score of 8.

Such beautiful detail in the scenery and backdrops

Animation
The animation of this film is mais defined, and movement is smoother. There are some beautifully detailed backdrops, which give the film its classic feel. There was the clever animation of Cinderella’s reflection in multiple bubbles, which would have required extreme care when producing. However, there are some details missing; for one, cinderela doesn’t have any toes. There are also some inconsistencies with colours and numbers, as Gus’ camisa turns green in one scene, and it’s not because of the lighting. This animation is still quite good for when the movie was produced, so it earns a score of 7.

 Such a better version

Songs
A Dream is a Wish Your coração Makes – this song comes across as classical, but there are also some discernible jazz slides and chords. The lyrics are inspirational, and show Cinderella’s personality well.
Sing Sweet Nightingale – the step-sister’s version of this is quite terrible to listen to. However, Cinderella’s version is pretty and a lot sweeter, and has some nice backing harmonies.
The Work Song – this song has some nice harmonies, but the mice voices are annoying and ear-grating.
Bippity Boppity Boo – this song is quite pompous, but doesn’t seem to be a full song, as it is often interrupted por characters talking.
So This is Love – this song is nice to listen to, and has strong harmonies between cinderela and Charming. The lyrics adequately summarise the feelings that are characteristic of falling in love.
STIL reprise – sung quite dreamily, and Cinderella’s amor is quite clear, but this song is also too short to have any impact.
ADIAWYHM reprise – strong choral harmonies, but again, it is too short to have any real impact.
Overall, the songs are quite good, earning a score of 8.

Score
The score has a strong, contrasting mix of both predominantly brass and strings. When the brass plays, the score tends to be pompous or a fanfare, but when the strings play, it is either sweeping, usually showing sadness, or pizzicato, which raises the tension. Throughout the movie, the score helps to hold the tension well, and also follow what the characters are doing. However, there is some slight funeral-type música in an inappropriate moment, which is off-putting, earning score a score of 9.

Mood
This movie seems to be mais family-friendly than Snow White, as teenagers can understand Cinderella’s sarcasm, while little kids wouldn’t. The movie had very few boring moments, and the audience is manipulated quite cleverly to feel what cinderela feels. Overall, the mood earns a score of 9.

Overall, this movie is almost perfect, but is drawn back por Charming, Tremaine and the couple, so earns a total score of 74 out of 100.
