As we close out 2016 and try to wrangle the wild, untamed 455 (!) scripted shows that were on TV this past year, it\'s time to look back at the best battles, duels, tussles, throwdowns, and slobberknockers that our favorite stories had to offer. That\'s right, it\'s the holiday season, so it\'s time to fight!
This year we had warring Jedis, clashing pirates, scrapping vikings, and tenacious teens fending off ravenous interdimensional monsters. There was a little bit of everything on the action front, including superheroes overcoming small armies, dystopian warriors fighting for tribal supremacy, and a guy getting his head sucked up into a butt. WE SAID EVERYTHING!

Daredevil vs. The Dogs of Hell (Marvel\'s Daredevil: Season 2, Episode 3 - "New York\'s Finest"):
The idea of trying to top Daredevil\'s Season 1 hallway fight seemed unwise, but Season 2 delivered in a big way with its rooftop/hallway/stairwell fight that featured the Man Without Fear embarking on an epic escort mission, trying to apprehend Frank Castle while fiercely fending off an entire bar full of bikers. Chains were hurled, bodies were thrown, and Matt Murdock managed to carve another pulverizing path through a squad of sinners.
Team Arrow (and Legends) vs. The Ghosts of Arrow Past (Season 5, Episode 8 - "Invasion!"):
During the DCTVU\'s crossover battle with the Dominators, Oliver, Diggle, Thea, Sara and Ray found themselves held prisoner inside a shared hallucination. While attempting to escape, the group found themselves pitted against dream versions of freakin\' Malcolm Merlyn, Deathstroke, and Damien Darhk for a trippy blast-from-the-past battle that kicked major keister.
Jon Snow vs. Ramsay Bolton (Game of Thrones: Season 6, Episode 9 - "Battle of the Bastards"):
Once Jon Snow managed to survive the carnage outside the gates of Winterfell and the suffocating mountains of bodies that filled the fields, it came down to him and the wretched Ramsay - mano y mano. The Bolton bastard called for a one-on-one fight and tried to take out Jon with his expert arrows. But Jon was ready with his shield, blocking three shots and then taking Ramsay down for a punishing pummeling. Of course, Jon, being a good brother, left the actual kill for Sansa.
Nancy, Jonathan, and Steve vs. The Demogorgon (Stranger Things: Season 1, Episode 8 - "The Upside Down"):
In Stranger Things\' Season 1 finale, Nancy and Jonathan made a big booby-trapped stand at the Byers home, luring the Demogorgon out of hiding by using their own blood and then trying to kill it with bats, bullets and fire. And it was Steve, of all people, who made the big difference. Instead of being the \'80s douchebag coward we assumed he\'d be, he swooped in and saved the day.
Flint vs. Blackbeard (Black Sails: Season 3, Episode 6 - "XXIV"):
In typical Flint fashion, the chaotic captain put it all on the line in Season 3 when he challenged the legendary Blackbeard to a duel, with Charles Vane and the Ocracoke Island pirates on the line as the ultimate prize. First it was pistols, then swords... And then Flint got his tail whooped. And it would have been curtains for him if Vane himself hadn\'t stepped in and begun fighting his own mentor. Once again, Flint managed to somehow will his hopes into reality.
Carrie vs. Nina Cruz (Banshee: Season 4, Episode 6 - "Only One Way a Dogfight Ends"):
Those who thought Cinemax\'s Banshee would skimp on savagery during its final season were fools as the most magnificently merciless fight show on TV gave us another stunning sequence when Carrie and Job fought off a harrowing home invasion - goons sent by Proctor to kill everyone they saw, including Carrie\'s daughter Deva. While Job bested his own gun-toting bullies, Carrie threw down with deputy-on-the-take Nina. Punches, kicks, armbars, triangle chokes - these two danced to a draw as Nina escaped to backstab another day.
Lexa vs. Roan (The 100: Season 3, Episode 4 - "Watch the Thrones")
Like dystopian futures do, there was a nasty fight to the death for local leadership - this time between Lexa and Queen Nia\'s son, Roan. Here, Lexa not only got to show off her superior fighting skills by besting Roan, but also her cleverness by choosing to swerve everyone and kill Nia instead, thus proclaiming Roan the new King of the Ice Nation.
Darth Vader vs. Ahsoka (Star Wars Rebels: Season 2, Episode 22 - "Twilight of the Apprentice"):
In a stunning and emotional battle that capped off Star Wars Rebels\' second season, Ahsoka finally faced off with Darth Vader, who she had to come to terms with being her former mentor, Anakin Skywalker. "I\'m no Jedi," she declared before mounting an all-out assault, eventually slashing Vader\'s mask open. Ashoka\'s fate remains ambiguous, but it was clear this was a fight that took a toll on the Dark Lord of the Sith.
Ragnar vs. Rollo (Vikings: Season 4, Episode 10 - "The Last Ship"):
After Rollo\'s second big betrayal against his family and friends, Ragnar was out for blood. During the second raid of Paris, the two bothers engaged in a fight so ferocious that they had to be physically dragged apart. The Franks won, many vikings fell, and Ragnar and Rollo\'s bloody beatdown ended in a stalemate.
Ash vs. The Colon (Ash vs. Evil Dead: Season 2, Episode 2 - "The Morgue"):
While searching for the Necronomicon in a local morgue, Ash experienced (probably) the craziest and most grotesquely awesome foe he\'d ever fought - in the form of a corpse\'s possessed colon that wrapped itself around Ash\'s neck and slowly dragged him up into... Well, we\'ll just let Ash speak for us. "Oh, god. I\'m in the butt! I\'m in the butt!"
