I've just been watching Season 1 again (introducing the show to my mum and she loves it hehe) and I have to say I've warmed up to Stefan more than I had in the past. In some scenes Paul does an incredible job (episode 18/19 as great examples) and I think he's an incredible actor.

Stefan as a character does annoy the crap out of me with his "holier than thou" attitude and seeming to put the blame on Damon for EVERYTHING and STILL thinking he's dangerous for Elena to be with. (eg: last episode when talking to Caroline) I hope we'll get more of an edge out of him soon and more light will be shed on this "ripper" past of his... his character does tend to become dull :-/

Paul is amazing! Hes so funny and cute too. I actually like stefan with Caroline. hell I love their scenes together. I just dont like him with Elena. he lies too much. I was like oh no stefan get out of that vervain well. and the breakup scene was especially well acted.

I want to see the Dark stefan that damon was talking about in the road trip bonding time. I WANT so badly for Elena to actually se that Stefan!

Paul is awesome and whose's skills are totally underated as Stefan. But wait and see as the 'Rippa'. He has said in interviews how excited he was to play this side of Stefan. I love him when he is being sexy sarcastic with Katherine and his relationship with Damon.
