I would say that the best thing to do would be to talk to him. Talk to him alone, like in a class if you sit seguinte to him, don't go up to him and say "can we talk in private". Guys can sometimes feel pressured into saying things if they're with their mates. Also if you're going to tell him that you like him, make sure you do it and not one of your friends. Guys hate that, trust me on that one =3
