X-Men TV Series Update: New Cast Members & X-Men Revealed
|
I remember visiting this website once...
Here's some stuff I remembered seeing:
News about Fox’s upcoming X-Men TV pilot has been coming fast, with a few new names cast as well as confirmed X-Men set to appear as well. Let’s take a look so far at what we know about the upcoming pilot, which was written by Matt Nix and will be produced and directed by Bryan Singer.
The story will follow a set of parents and their two children who are just discovering their mutant powers. Unfortunately, fans of the X-Men universe know that this could put that family in danger, due to a hostile government set on hunting down mutants. This forces the family to go on the run, where they meet up with an underground mutant resistance. The first casting news that was announced revealed that Blair Redford taking on the role of Sam, as “the strong-headed Native American leader of the underground network.” We previously saw Redford in a couple episodes of the underrated Sundance show
It was then announced that Jamie Chung will be joining the series as Blink, an X-Men we had previously been introduced to in
, played by Fan Bingbing. It’s unclear what role the teleporting mutant will play in the TV series, though it’s fairly safe to assume it will be alongside Redford and the rest of the underground network.
We also learned of another mutant that has been cast, as Sean Teale will play Marcos Diaz AKA Eclipse, “a natural rebel compelled by circumstances to cooperate with others, Marcos is a passionate and strong-willed fighter who sometimes lets his emotions overrule reason. His alter ego, Eclipse, who possesses the ability to absorb and manipulate photons, is a newly created mutant for this expanded X-Men universe.” The power description is a little vague, but sounds like he’ll be able to control light in some way. Teale played the lead on Syfy’s lone season of
The parents of our fugitive family have also been cast, with Stephen Moyer taking on the role of Reed, who is described as “an ambitious attorney trying to balance the demands of his job at the DA’s office with his responsibilities to his family.” Moyer is probably still best known for his role on
Stephen Moyer as Bill Compton on True Blood (HBO)
Joining Moyer will Amy Acker as Kate Stewart, best know for her works with Joss Whedon, including
. Acker will play “a woman who is struggling with her separation from her husband, Reed and her increasingly challenging teenage children. When her family situation takes a dark turn, she finds that she’s stronger than she thinks.” Obviously, we know the challenges her teen children are facing will be their developing mutations.

Natalie Alyn Lind has also joined the cast as the family’s teenage daughter Lauren, who is described by Deadline as “smart, pretty, popular, organized and already ahead on her college applications, Lauren is the model of a perfect kid.” Lind is no stranger to the comic book world, having played Silver St. Cloud on
. It’s unclear what kind of mutation Lauren will have to deal with, but she won’t be alone.

It was also recently revealed that Percy Hynes White has joined the cast as well, and while the connection isn’t confirmed, the description of his character Andy as “a sensitive kid and bit of a loner, who keeps to himself to avoid the turmoil he faces at school and at home” makes us think this rounds out the fugitive family.
Finally, along with the announcement that Acker will be playing Kate, we learned that
) has also been cast in the role of Lorna Dane AKA Polaris, a classic X-Man who wields the power over magnetism, just like her father Magneto (she was raised by human parents and only discovered her true parentage later in life). How that familial connection will play out on the show could be interesting, as we’ve already seen that particular issue develop between Quicksilver and Magneto in
Polaris (Marvel) and Emma Dumont on Aquarius (NBC)
What we have learned from these casting announcements is that they aren’t shying away from mutants and their powers, something we all feared with the jump to a television budget, and there are in fact known X-Men characters as a part of the series. It remains to be seen if any of the teen mutants will turn out to be already established characters, meaning we could be seeing an
-level fake out like they did with the Skye/Daisy reveal.
