Though 20th Century Fox has yet to confirm the casting of any of the rumored leads of the upcoming X-Men spinoff movie The New Mutants, all three stars are eager to become a part of the X-Men film world.
In March, it was reported that The Witch\'s Anya Taylor-Joy, Game of Thrones\' Maisie Williams and X-Men: Apocalypse\'s Alexandra Shipp were cast as Magik, Wolfsbane and Storm, respectively, though Fox later
denied the report. Since, all three women have come out to state their enthusiasm for the project, with Taylor-Joy confirming her interest in The New Mutants to IGN while promoting her new sci-fi thriller Morgan.
"I think the world is really fascinating," she said. "I\'d love to be a part of it. It would be wonderful."
Director Josh Boone took to Instagram in May to tease the movie\'s lineup of X-Men, posting character art of Wolfsbane, Mirage, Cannonball, Sunspot, Magik and Warlock.
Kinberg revealed soon after that the intention is for Professor Charles Xavier to play a role in the movie, and that it would have a YA vibe to it. He also said the plan is to film it in early 2017. Kinberg said the next X-Men movie would be set in the \'90s, though it was unclear whether he was referring to The New Mutants or the main X-Men series.
When asked if we might expect any official announcements about the film in the near future, Taylor-Joy was vague, saying, "I guess when they make decisions the world will know."
After their names became tied to The New Mutants, both Williams and Shipp also expressed enthusiasm to join the film. In April, Williams told Entertainment Weekly, “I can’t say much about it at all, but I would absolutely love to be a part of it, [and] to be a part of the Marvel family. New Mutants looks absolutely incredible and I’ve always loved the idea of spin-offs and [director] Joshua Boone is incredibly talented. So, yeah, sign me up.”
Shipp told IGN she hopes to reprise her Apocalypse role even as a "little cameo" to take Storm on more adventures. “I love Storm as a character. I\'d love to reprise her in many different movies and be able to show people different sides of her because she is so multidimensional and I think that the people who love Storm at least as much as I do, really want to see that," she said. "We want to see Storm killin\' it and kickin\' ass. That\'s the best thing about her, how amazing and powerful she is.”
Boone is attached to co-write and direct The New Mutants. It does not yet have a release date.
