When Daryl Dixon (Norman Reedus) cries, we all cry. So prepare to cry at the end of The Walking Dead Season 5, Episode 1, "No Sanctuary."
Season 5 premieres on Sunday, October 12, and The Powers That Be have already mentioned a very special surprise at the end of the episode. MTV watched the premiere in advance and shared some secrets, including that it features "a well-earned emotional ending."
As they wrote, “All of the anguish due to the characters’ season four separation pays off in a huge way at the end of the night, and let’s just say fans of Daryl tears will be extremely pleased. Not Beth fans, though. You’re just going to have to keep on waiting on that.”
OK, now why would Daryl be crying — in a good way? Could it be because Pookie is finally reunited with Carol Peletier (Melissa McBride)?! They haven’t seen each other since the first half of Season 4, when he went out on the veterinary college supply run and she was banished in the suburbs. Season 5 trailers and premiere teases have already stated how awesome Carol will get in helping the group escape Terminus. And several fans had already guessed that the special surprise referred to a big
It’s going to be exciting to see the great escape, but just as rewarding to see the characters finally get a happy ending, however briefly — not just with Daryl and Carol, but of course with Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln), Carl Grimes (Chandler Riggs) and baby Judith having their long-awaited Grimes family reunion, and Tyreese (Chad Coleman) reuniting with his sister Sasha (Sonequa Martin-Green).
But back to Daryl for a second. In their own Season 5 premiere review, Highlight Hollywood noted, “Norman Reedus as Daryl Dixon outdoes himself in some of the most emotional scenes one can imagine ever seeing him in. And Andrew Lincoln (Rick Grimes), is going down and back up again, in a blaze of glory.”
Sounds awesome! So go pick up an extra box of tissues in case you get the sniffles when all the emotions come pouring out. As a bonus, you can hide your eyes behind the box if you get too grossed out from the graphic cold open.
