Here's the first look at season 7 of The Vampire Diaries 

heads into season 7. The first trailer is out for the upcoming season, and there’s a new vampire-witch clique in charge: the Heretics.

We’ve raced forward in time as the Salvatore brothers’ mother has unleashed her army – or as Caroline calls them, “supernatural terrorists” – out into the world, and the results? Well, they’re pretty disastrous. But Damon, Stefan, Bonnie and the rest of the gang aren’t going down without a fight.

“About how long do we have before this evil engulfs the world? Just trying to plan my week.” Damon asks.

returns Oct. 8 at 8 p.m. on The CW. Take a look at the trailer as well as several new photos from the season, below.
