Why does saying ((calm down)) make an angry person mais angry?

In my opinion, because they just want you to calm down and aren't willing to talk with you about it.
At least that's how I feel.

Because they don't want to be told what to do.

well, when my mom tells me to calm down, i calm down.

Because how /dare/ you imply that my anger means that I'm not in complete control.
