"THE YOUNG VICTORIA" (2009) Review

About a ano or so before his popular televisão series, "DOWNTON ABBEY" hit the airwaves, Julian Fellowes served as screenwriter to the lavish biopic about the early life and reign of Britain's queen Victoria called "THE YOUNG VICTORIA". The 2009 movie starred Emily Blunt in the título role and Rupert Friend as the Prince Consort, Prince Albert.

"THE YOUNG VICTORIA" began during the last years in the reign of King William IV, Victoria's uncle. Acknowledge as the seguinte ruler of Britain, Victoria became the target of a political tug-of-war between her mother,...

Below is my review of the 2004 BBC miniseries, "NORTH AND SOUTH", which is an adaptation of Elizabeth Gaskell's 1855 novel:

"NORTH AND SOUTH" (2004) Review

If someone had told me years atrás that I would find myself watching the 2004 BBC televisão adaptation of Elizabeth Gaskell’s 1855 novel, let alone purchase a DVD copy of the miniseries, I would have dismissed that person’s notion as inconceivable. I have never shown any anterior interest in ”NORTH AND SOUTH”. And I am still baffled at how I suddenly became interested in it.

"HEAVEN AND HELL: NORTH AND SOUTH BOOK III" (1994) - EPISODE ONE Commentary

If there is one chapter in John Jakes' NORTH AND SOUTH saga that is reviled por the fans, it the televisão adaptation of the third one, set after the American Civil War. First of all, the theme of post-war Reconstruction has never been that popular with tales about the four-year war. mais importantly, fãs of Jakes' saga seemed to have a low opinion of "HEAVEN AND HELL: NORTH AND SOUTH BOOK III", the 1994 adaptation of Jakes' third North and South novel, published back in 1987.

My opinion of the 1994 miniseries slightly...

"PERSUASION" (1971) Review

This adaptation of Jane Austen’s 1818 novel turned out to be the first of the old Jane Austen televisão adaptations that the BBC aired during the 1970s and 80s. Produced and directed por Howard Baker, and adapted por Julian Mitchell; this two-part miniseries starred Ann Firbanks and Bryan Marshall.

As many fãs of Austen’s novel would know, "PERSUASION" told the story of Anne Elliot, the middle daughter of a vain and spendthrift baronet, who finds herself reunited with her former finance, a Naval officer of lesser birth named Frederick Wentworth. Eight years before...

"THE MISSISSIPPI GAMBLER" (1953) Review

Tyrone Power's career took a strange turn during the post-World War II years. Although he still managed to maintain his position as one of Twentieth Century Fox's topo, início stars during the remainder of the 1940s, something happened as the 1950s dawned. Powers still found himself in Grade A filmes during that particular decade. But he also seemed to appear in a growing number of standard costume melodramas.

Twentieth Century raposa lent Powers to Universal Pictures to estrela in the 1953 drama called "THE MISSISSIPPI GAMBLER". Directed por Rudolph Maté, "THE MISSISSIPPI...
