Anyway let me first say that this scene is one of my all time favorito scenes ever in OTH. Chad and Hilarie do such an amazing job with this scene.
Well I've rewatched this scene a few times, as people make up picks or ask perguntas and such. And the mais I watch this scene the mais I wanna take Lucas's side on this whole arguement they had.
Let me just make this clear I'm saying I wanna take his side in this particular scene and I'm speaking only about this scene. I think they were both wrong in some of the things they said. When I first watched this episode I immediately took Peyton's side cuz it looked like Lucas was being an ass.
But as I rewatch it, she was way worse than him. I mean when you look at it from Lucas's perspective he goes to LA to ask Peyton to marry him, in his mind he could never imagine her saying anything but yes and when she didn't it destroyed him. Sure she didn't say no either, she said someday but if you at it from luke's point of view she might as well have said no. It could have easily been intrepreted as she was too afraid to say no so she said someday. (I really think she meant it but thats not my point here).
Do I think Lucas should have just left it at that no I dont, but at the same time, Peyton made no attempt after that. Do I think Lucas gave up when he just left, yes I do. But do I think he was right when he said Peyton gave up, yes I think he was. Not necessarily for the reasons he gave, I don't think it would have made any difference in the world to Peyton as to whether or not his novel ever got published, she didn't care about that. Then he says that she didn't care, maybe because it wasn't about her or what she wanted. There is some truth to that I think. She'd care, i won't argue with that, but in some ways she did choose her life in LA, her job and such over Lucas.
Should people be engaged at 19, no probably not however. However if I asked someone to marry me and they said someday, that answer to me would be mais of a no, than a yes. Sure they were young and they both had things in life they wanted to do, outside of the relationship they had, i think peyton had valid reasons for saying someday. But they were also excuses. So in the aspect of there break up. I think they were both wrong, sure if he loved her that much he should have waited, but that has to be hard, i don't know what I would do if I asked the person I was in amor with to marry me and they said someday, I might leave too. As for peyton though, if she loved Lucas as much as she says than she could have said yes, it wasn't like they were gonna get married that night.
As for the rest of the conversation when Peyton starts throwing the books at lucas and saying that he never meant anything he said to or about her. She was so wrong when she said this it was unbelieveable to me. The look on Lucas's face when she's saying this makes me wanna cry.
Ultimately it doesn't matter who left who, because frankly after Lucas left the only attempt at contact was lucas inviting peyton to his book signing.
So when it comes right down to this arguement, I have decided and I know you guys are probably going to think I'm insane.
But after everything that was said in this arguement por both Lucas and Peyton. I have to side with Lucas in this arguement.
Haha...maybe I am going insane.
