Michael was nominated for four awards for Bad, and for "Producer Of The Year", but... and this is hard to belive, especially since the Bad album had five No.1 singles ... as far as I can remember he didn't win any of them! (Bad is a very underrated album.) As Cherl already said, U2 won "Album of the year", the Grammy for the best song that ano didn't go to Michael's "Man in the Mirror", it went to Bobby McFerrin's "Don't Worry, Be Happy" (!!!), Smokey Robinson won "Best Rhythm & Blues Vocal Performance", Sting won "Pop Male Vocalist".

Michael was very sad and disappointed that evening, he was crying in the car after the award ceremony was over.

Poor Mike... :,(

Ok so do you think that those who won instead of him really deserved to ? If not , then why didn't he win ? And I agree with you "Bad" album is very underrated .

@M_Annie_J - Michael should’ve won several 1988 Grammys! History has proved them wrong, because MJ and the Bad album have been much mais successful than any of the other albums, songs and artists who won Grammys that year. I’m not 100% sure why he didn’t win, and there may have been mais or other things going on “behind the scenes” at that time, that I haven’t heard or read about, but (and these are not my opinions, it’s what I’ve heard and read) I’ve heard that some people thought that other artists made música that was mais innovative than Michael’s, and deserved to be honored and encouraged por winning Grammys. They also didn’t want one artist only dominating the música scene (like Michael did at that time), they wanted diversity. Some also started to think that Michael’s career would soon be over anyway (even if Bad was extremely successful). Some of the other artists were, as MJ also said on tape, jealous of him because of his success, and… if we are to find something positive about the 1988 Grammys, it must be the fact that other artists didn’t get another reason to get even mais jealous of him, and maybe even turn against him. Michael didn’t win any Grammys in 1988, but… in 1989 he won the Grammy for the “Best música Video” (“Leave Me Alone”), an American música Award for the “Favorite Soul/R&B Single” in 1988, and also an “Award of Achievement at the American música Awards”, because Bad was the first album ever that got five number one singles in the U.S., the first album to topo, início in 25 countries and the best-selling album worldwide in 1987 and in 1988. And MJ’s “people” from the Bad recording studio, Bruce Swedien and Humberto Gatica, won the Grammy for the “Best Engineered Recording” in 1988. So… he won many awards and had great success with the Bad album, tour and vídeos anyway, but Michael was an extremely vulnerable person, and the Grammys that ano made him lose a lot of his motivation and ambitions. He was very hurt.

I know that feeling ; when you work hard on something and then don't get enough motivation or praise for what you have done .That was unfair what happened with Michael , but what I amor that he was strong enough to perform that night knowing he won't take a grammy . Thanks a lot for taking the time to answer my pergunta . I really appreciate your help :)

As I recall U2 won the Grammy for Record Of The Year, for the 1987 release, "The Joshua Tree"
