It'll be interesting to see if this actually comes to be (would love to see the story of Turin!).

I LOVE the Silmarillion! I wonder how he will portray Eru Iluvatar, the Creator. :)

But I love Turin too, his story alone can be a great movie in and of itself. The book was great.

I don't think Peter will portray Illuvatar at all. He's too divine to be portrayed by any person or creature. I mostly believe he will address only his voice.

;) ^as long as He is acknowledged as a personal being as Tolkien meant him to be. I will be totally fine with that. :)

A whole movie in Quenya and Sindarin? 20 hours long and with non-animated battles? You are kidding me, right?
The Silmarillion is great but nobody would do that.

I'm not so sure about this. It's not exactly a happily-ever-after type book. A lot of doom and gloom.

If PJ is doing this I would love to see it. However, it would be hard because the Silmarillion is the history of Middle Earth and focuses on Melkor, the Silmarills, and the Doom of the Noldor (it is not a happy story). In the end... I'd be happy to just see my favorite Elf and his story, Feanor.

Oh dear gods..... Not Peter Jackson!!!!

He already FSCKED parts of LOTR up beyond recognition, warping characters and story arcs into alien shapes that no longer resemble their original shape or intent...

A couple of examples are:
Faramir is no longer a noble example of the house of men. Instead of being a master of his own fate, who says "Not if this thing were lying by the road, and I alone could save Gondor by taking it up..." He is transformed by Peter Jackson from that, into a greedy ring-grubbing mennace who tries to steal it for himself, the same way his brother does!!!
Example 2: Gandalf is no longer the paragon of wisdom one would expect of a Maiar who spent over 20,000 years in peaceful contemplation in the gardens of Lorien in Valimar. He actually says the words "I don't know" in the movie!!! At no point in the book is there even a hint that Gandalf 'doesn't know' something!!
Example 3: Gimli is also transformed!! No longer is he the noble descendent of mighty sires sharing a kinship with the most noble dwarven house of Durin (I). Instead, thanks to Petet Jackson, he;'s become a comic-relief!!! No longer quick to anger and quick to laugh, he's just now something to laugh at with no dignity or presence!!
Example 4: Treebeard. Instead of being true to his convictions AGAINST being hasty, in the movie, treebeard instead becomes all about hasty! In the books, it makse sense. There's a meeting where everything is discussed, and it is decided that whether they march or stay, their doom will find them. Thus, is they march now, the least good they can do is to help other good, free folk, even if it is the last thing the ents do. Peter Jackson transforms them instaead, into beings who decide against going to war. They just don't want to get involved at all. Also, apparentl;y, being sheppards of the trees is just a job title in the movie, too, because if they were truly herding their flocks, they would have known already about the devastation to the forests (as they do in the books). Anyway, back on point; They decide agaisnt goning to war, however, once treebeard sees the mangled remains of the southern forest, all he has to do is bellow, and all the ents change their minds in one hasty swoop!!!

Nice going Peter Jackson!!! Way to fsck so many characters out of their intended forms and warp them into something unrecognisable and something that doesn't make any sense!!! By all the gods, I hope he isn't allowed anywhere near production of the Silmaril movies....

hmmm
I am pretty sure the Silmarillion won't become a movie. At least not by peter Jackson. He doesn't own the rights and by the sound of things the Tolkien estate are pretty dissatisfied with the hobbit movie so.......

I'm with Razzar. The Silmarillion is too complex a story for someone like Peter Jackson to make. He made a good try for Lord of the Rings and it was good even though the changes he made were needless and ridiculous. The Silmarillion needs to be made as its written. The Hobbit has been butchered beyond recognition. I don't understand his need to make characters into totally different beings from their original description. I hope nobody attempts The Silmarillion because it will be warped into a nightmare. It's one of my all time favorite stories. I could've cried at the Hobbit movies just because they've been so bad.

It will never happen. Period. The Tolkien Estate was furious at the LotR and Hobbit adaptations they are refusing to even consider it. Also,Tolkien sold only the rights to The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings. T h e Tolkien Estate would have to sell the rights to make a movie based on the Silmarillion even possible and I don't believe they would do that. Their stated position is to keep the rest of the Middle Earth Mythology pure and contaminated. I would like to see a Silmarillion Epic on the big screen but I'm afraid I would be disappointed to the edge of rage having seen the hack job to the hobitt.Yes Evangeline Lilly is drop dead gorgeous but Tuariel is a completely nonsensical character. She is a vehicle only. Never existed in middle earth and doesn't behave like a Silvan or any other kind of elf. Read Morgoths Ring,The People's of Middle Earth and the Shaping of Middle Earth. In Morgoths Ring read an essay Tolkien wrote about elvish culture customs. Very enlightening.
