I became a "Huddy" the first night that House ever aired. It happened the moment he quoted the philosopher "Jaeger" to Cuddy when he said "You can't always get what you want". She earned her place in my coração when she came back at him with "It turns out that you just might get what you need". On the strength of that quote started, what I believe is one of the greatest TV romances ever. For whatever it may or may not be, I can tune in any week and not typically get what I want from Huddy, but if I wait long enough, I might get what I need. For the writers know what I like to pretend isn't true. If they give me everything I want, why would I keep coming back? If they give me just what I need, then I will need mais and I will come back.
Whether por choice or just because of the hoops we have jumped, Huddies seem to have a certain amount of spirit that even while at it's lowest point can't be completely extinguished. When Stacy came around and we learned about her and House and their past amor affair, he made the comment to Cuddy, (pardon my lack of exact quote) "Why does everyone think that we slept together?..you think there's any truth in that?". Of course to a Huddy, that was like a golden ticket telling you that you had a place on the Huddy ride that while it seemed detoured, was really running steady and sure in the backround.
When we never really knew with House whether it was lust or amor at times, he became obsessed with the identity of a soldier who had made out with Cuddy years before and we saw it wasn't just a passing thing. On Cuddy's part, we saw her consider House as a candidate for Baby Daddy and we knew, it wasn't just an obsession. There has always something more. We have yet to know the exact story of the desk, but when the episode comes where we learn the story, how worth it will that be?
When all seems lost we keep hoping. The timing has never been right on both sides. We have had a glorious kiss here, a longing stare there and words, wonderful words that could make or break a moment. Even when we have heard the creator say that they will "never be happy", we have hung on. Any Huddy that could make it through the five seasons and see the sex be a heartbreaking hallucination followed por our beloved hero ending up in a mental hospital. Even in the midst of that we kept hope.
So now when we have learned the big "what could have been" about House and Cuddy, we could get bitter, angry and ticked that Lucas is in the picture. Deep inside, don't we all know that we will get what we need eventually. Even if it isn't what we want? And as Jaeger says, "you can't always get what you want'...that also means that sometimes you will.
The spirit of Huddy is that hope is never really gone and each and every morsel tastes a little better than the whole cake all at once.
