How come in Ellen's mother's dia specials for her show, when the military men send their mother's dia video messages, they're only directed for their wives?

Why aren't the military men's mothers there to get amor from their son in the military? I know the wives are new mothers or expected mothers but still, the mothers of the military mean deserve amor too!
