Ever since I began playing D&D 8 years atrás it has been one of my favorito hobbies, but within the last two years it's become an even bigger part of my life. Since I've been having so much fun with it recently, I decided it was finally time to try something I'd always wanted to do: combine two of my favorito interests and turn the disney Princesses into D&D characters.

Over the last ano I've been slowly creating D&D characters based off of the DPs, and I spent so much time on them that I really wanted to share them here. I'll be posting a series of articles, one for each DP, in which I explain why I chose the classes, subclasses, etc. for each princess, and share the backstory I wrote for each. I'll also be crossposting these artigos to the disney Princess club. All the characters will be level 3 to ensure that they all have a chosen subclass. Sourcebooks used to build these characters include the Player's Handbook, Volo's Guide to Monsters, Xanathar's Guide to Everything, and Tasha's Cauldron of Everything. Anything written in italics is an author's note explaining my reasoning behind certain character choices.

Mulan

Human Fighter - Battle Master / Background - Soldier

Mulan was an easy one for me. From her martial prowess it was clear that she should be a fighter, and given the wide range of styles she was trained in during her time in the army I thought Battle Master would be the most fitting subclass. Since she spent time in the military I gave her the soldier background.

Character Stats

Level 3

STR +3 (16) DEX +2 (14) CON +2 (15) INT +1 (13) WIS 0 (11) CHA -1 (9)

I used the standard array to generate stats. I tried to assign them in a way that would allow for a strong D&D character while still remaining mostly true to the attributes of the character in the film.

HP 28
AC 18 (chain mail + shield)
Initiative +2
Speed 30 ft.

Saving throws: Str +5, Con +4

Skills: Acrobatics +4, Athletics +5, Intimidation +1, Perception +2 (For her class skills I gave her Acrobatics and Athletics. She's clearly excellent at both since she was able to climb the pole and retrieve the arrow, not to mention her martial arts skills. Intimidation was granted por her background, and then I got to choose one more. I went with Perception, since she's very good at perceiving how to use her environment to her advantage, like when she made the avalanche.)

Languages: Common, Draconic (She literally has a dragon companion, she absolutely speaks Draconic.)

Tools: Calligrapher's Supplies, Dice Set, Vehicles (Land)

Features and Traits

Fighting Style: You adopt a fighting style specialty. Dueling - When you are wielding a melee weapon in one hand and no other weapons, you gain a +2 bonus to damage rolls with that weapon. (We see mulan wielding a sword one-handed at multiple times during the film, which is why I picked this fighting style.)

Action Surge: You can take one additional action on your turn. This can be used 1 times per short rest.

Student of War: You gain proficiency with one type of artisan’s tools. Calligrapher's Supplies (I chose calligrapher's supplies because we see her composição literária with a calligraphy brush during the film.)

Maneuver: Bait and Switch - When you’re within 5 ft. of a creature on your turn, you can expend one superiority die and switch places with that creature, provided you spend at least 5 ft. of movement and the creature is willing and isn’t incapacitated. This movement doesn’t provoke opportunity attacks. Roll the superiority die. Until the start of your seguinte turn, you or the other creature (your choice) gains a bonus to AC equal to the number rolled.

Maneuver: Distracting Strike - When you hit with a weapon attack, you can expend one superiority die to add the total to the damage roll and the seguinte attack roll against the target por an attacker other than you has advantage if the attack is made before the start of your seguinte turn.

Actions

Crossbow, Light: +4 to hit, 1d8+2 piercing damage

Longsword: +5 to hit, 1d8+5 slashing damage

Superiority Dice: You learn maneuvers that are fueled por superiority dice. Maneuvers enhance an attack in some way. You have 4d8 superiority dice per short rest.

Bonus Actions

Maneuver: Feinting Attack - You can expend one superiority die and use a bonus action on your turn to add the total to the damage roll and to gain advantage on your seguinte attack roll against a chosen creature within 5 ft. this turn.

segundo Wind: Once per short rest, you can use a bonus action to regain 1d10 + 3 HP.

Backstory

Backstories have been created with a combination of the stories from the films and rolling randomly on the aleatório tables in the "This Is Your Life" section of Xanathar's Guide to Everything, which is why some of these backstories have some wild things that really come out of left field lol.

I was born to Fa Li and Zhou in their small home. I was their only child, and we lived a modest life together with my grandmother. I had a few close friends and lived an ordinary childhood, but was often seen as rebellious and far too independent for a woman in our culture.

One day, invaders attacked my homeland. My father was commanded to denunciar to the army, but he had already served in his younger years and still bore a painful injury that forced him to walk with a cane. I knew he would not survive if he went to the front lines.

I cut my hair, disguised myself as a boy, and roubou my father's sword and armor, portraying myself as a son he rarely spoke about. The army accepted me initially, and I became a fearsome warrior in my training.

Eventually, however, my ruse was discovered. The penalty for a disguising myself as a man was death, but I had saved my commander, Li Shang's, life and he spared mine to repay his debt, however I was expelled from the ranks of my fellow soldiers.

They believed we had vanquished our enemies in our final battle together, but I knew that was not true. I followed them to the Emperor's palace and tried to convince them that he was still in danger. They would not listen to me until the invaders appeared. Improvising and using some quick thinking, I was able to kill their leader.

The Emperor himself thanked me and restored my honor, and por extension the honor of my family. I was sad to say goodbye to my commander, as I secretly harbored some feelings for him. I knew, however, that I needed to return início and mend things with my family, so I left despite their pleas for me to stay and cadastrar-se the Emperor's council.

I stayed with my family for a while, but found it extremely difficult to adapt back to civilian life. I chose to allocate the stipend the Emperor had given me to my family, and set out on my own in procurar of adventure.

I've taken for my heraldic sign is a golden dragon on a green field, representing valor and the Great Stone Dragon I believe guided me through my life. I've also taken a bright green feather from the rooster at our início to remind me of my origins.

My signature fighting style is cunning. I dart in to attack at just the right moment and use small-scale tactics to tilt the odds in my favor. I hope that this will allow me to survive in the wider world.

Basically kept the story exactly the same lol
