So I took my little nephew to go see Inside Out, and no geral, global I liked it. The good: Nobody beats pixar in the concepts department, and they are in topo, início form here. The way they can take abstract things like feelings and memory and create characters and worlds and stories is incredible ... just to see things all of these abstract things given form is in itself worth the admission. The dialogue is also really clever and there are lots of really funny moments. but... *adds mais in the seguinte comment* Posted over a year ago
UnholyNoise commented…
The bad: As with a lot of other pixar movies, I feel like they do better with concepts than with characterization -- I couldn't really get into any of the characters (not even Riley); I liked them better as ideas than people. And there's the familiar pixar "we are trying to teach you something; every moment of this movie is going to be deep" vibe that kind of smothers the storytelling -- I don't dislike learning, duh, but the way it's done here reminds me of Wall-E. Very slick and inorganic and not a little self-important. But I think it's worth seeing at least once and I'm glad I did. over a year ago
audreybrooke commented…
Yeah, the self-importance and enforced "deepness" is what I generally dislike about pixar movies. Especially because most people buy into it. *sigh* over a year ago
Diazdiaz95 commented…
I'm not crazy about Wall-E or Up so I get what you are saying about them trying to be deep all the time but I didn't feel that with this film. I like pixar films but I usually prefer disney (non-Pixar) films and this one felt mais like one of those so I liked it mais than most of the other pixar films. Interesting because I disagree with what you considered to be the bad in the film but I understand what you are saying. over a year ago

I know this might be a minor moment in the movie Valente but when I was watching it while on my road trip, one part actually really made me mad and no one else seems to talk about it, it might just be nitpicking. When Elinor is eating berries and Merida analyzes the berries and seems to be pretty knowledgable about them but waits until her mother has ate like 3-5 to tell her that their poisonous. Am I the only one who is annoyed por this? Posted over a year ago
MaidofOrleans commented…
I think that was mostly for comic relief. Also a urso is probably mais resistant to the poison than a human. But yeah now that you mention it that is a little weird. over a year ago

Do you mean this scene: (linkBecause Merida does immediately say "they're erva-moura, nightshade, pretinha berries," expecting Elinor to recognize the name because, well, erva-moura, nightshade, pretinha is pretty well-known for being poisonous. Although like MaidofOrleans said, it could just be comic relief. over a year ago

I haven't seen Inside Out yet but I will this week and I've seen that so far everyone seems to amor the movie but just wait until it becomes really successful and you'll see that all of a sudden people start seeing flaws in it everywhere and complaining about it and hating it like Frozen - Uma Aventura Congelante and to a lesser extent Big Hero 6, hopefully that won't be the case this time but it usually is. People like things until they become really popular, not the case with me though. Can't wait to see the movie! Posted over a year ago

I'm back from seeing Inside Out, and if you haven't seen it yet I really recommend that you do! I thought it was a really great, emotional movie — seriously, I cried at least five times. It's definitely one of Pixar's best, and has the same creative spirit that makes their filmes so good. It wasn't exactly a typical plot, since it didn't have a villain or anything like that, but I was still kept invested the entire time. Posted over a year ago
sarchasm commented…
The characters were all great too — I loved all of the emotions, although my favorito was probably Anger, and the voice atuação was really great. I did feel like they could have explored the real-world plotlines way mais than they did, but it was still an A+ movie imo. I went to see it with my Disney-hating sister, who mockingly called it "The Feelings Movie" on our way to the theatre and who still maintains that she hated it, but I saw her laugh and cry all throughout the film, so I know she must not have hated it as much as she claimed. over a year ago

I just got back from seeing Inside Out and I can honestly say that it's the most emotional of all the pixar movies, especially since it's about emotions. It's really complex and dynamic yet still simple enough to follow. The animation is gorgeous and I amor how it is able to capture the realistic look of the real world but also have a very cartoony and fun look for the emotions world. So, for lack of a better term, the animation has "the best of both worlds." *continues to type in comments* Posted over a year ago

The characters are all really likable. I mean, Fear, Anger, and Disgust do annoy me a little bit but they're still pretty likable and only do what they do because they care about Riley and want to protect her and make her happy. I feel like, from what I've seen of fãs so far, that I'm the only one who loves Joy. I feel like she's the most layered out of all of them and she does really develop and learn to accept other emotions. Plus, she's not doing what she does out of selfishness like Merida did, she's doing it because she just wants to save Riley emotionally. Sadness is also a great character and she really helps even out Joy's optimism with her pessimism. Riley is also a likable character because you really see what she's going through. She's not just a blank slate like Andy from Toy Story or a plot device like Penny from Bolt, you really get to feel her emotional struggle, a lot like you do with Odette from The cisne Princess. Plus she has a very likable personality. over a year ago

It's just a brilliant movie and it's Pixar's best since Toy Story 3. Cars 2 is AWFUL, Valente is mediocre, and Monsters universidade is good but not fantastic. This felt like pixar again and is now my third favorito pixar movie after Finding Nemo and Toy Story 3. It's a MUCH better introduction to a female pixar protagonist than Valente was. The only thing Valente did better was that I like Merida and Elinor's relationship mais than Joy and Sadness (which was still great) and I like the mais realistic and detailed animation in Valente than I do in Inside Out. Overall, it's a brilliant movie with a lot of emotion to it (no pun intended) that I HIGHLY recommend you RUSH to the movie theatre to see. over a year ago

It's a hot and cold movie. Sometimes I like it, sometimes I don't. But in the beginning, I really hated it. I felt it was trying to discredit all of the disney princesses of yore, por saying that "independent" women who are single are better because of their singleness. The treatment of the men in Valente as either comic relief or dumba**es didn't help me feel better. I thought depicting men as incompetent and just a bunch of macho with 'the burn to kill," was heavy-handed. por making the guys seem so dumb, the women seemed "intelligent" por contrast, so... this still makes me feel "eh" about the movie. But at least they made Merida and Elinor fleshed out characters. Merida used to be my least favorito for a while, before I joined Fanpop. over a year ago

I hate to start a fight but why it is okay for a woman to save a man but not okay for a man to save a woman? I think that is hypocritical & sexist. This post was inspired por Mongoose09's defense of the classic princesses article. Posted over a year ago
Aang_Lite commented…
The problem isn't that men can't save women, but that it's assumed in a lot of older filmes that these ladies have no other choice than to be saved. For a good amount of western history, the perfect woman was a small, demure, virgin girl who would never hurt a fly. Now there's nothing wrong with that per say, but if you follow that descrição of a woman to a tee, there isn't much room left for defending yourself. And as a result, it's assumed that you don't have the capability to defend yourself, making women less agent beings, and mais objects to be acted upon. So to answer your question, having a man save a woman isn't wrong, but we can't ignore the history of women subjugation either. over a year ago

Thank you for posting this. I agreed with every word of it. I think the decision Ariel made was stupid and reckless, but the movie was not Anti-Feminist. Feminism is supposed to be that men and women have equal rights, and that neither gender should be serving the other. Ariel was no anti-feminist at all. She was very independent. So she really is obsessed with a guy. So what? What she did to get him was pretty stupid but in the end of the day, Eric wasn't her only motive either way. over a year ago

I really hate to complain because I don't want to seem ungrateful because I really appreciate my hardworking parents, but I'm getting really tied of always going to the de praia, praia for vacation. I mean, it's pretty much the same old thing. We go to a hotel (where I usually end up in the worst place to sleep but I don't really mind because we always have like 7 people with us), we go to the de praia, praia but no one but the little kids get in, *continues to type in comments* Posted over a year ago

I want to get into the water (which I do) but I don't stay long because I'm usually alone and sometimes I just don't wanna play babysitter (though the kids are usually my best bet at having any kind of interaction with anyone in the water), when the adults in my group get in the pool they just stand around talking like complete bores, get out a few minutos later to get a tan, I get mored and just go back to the room, we go out to eat, and that's all there is. It's not that I don't enjoy the de praia, praia but considering my only interactions are with my 7 ano old niece, there is only so much I can do, especially since she usually finds kids her age to play with. I wish our vacations could have mais variety and that we would do mais than just go to the beach. I mean, with disney World I could go to every ano because it has four theme parks with TONS of different things to do and could still go to the beach. over a year ago

I saw Mad Max: Fury Road finally. I don't normally like action filmes but I loved it, especially the female characters. I'm just posting this here because they remind me of some disney characters:
Furiosa- Calhoun, the tough, dedicated female leader with a tragic side.
Splendid- Cinderella, the sandy-haired, warm, Valente optimistic leader of the girls (since cinderela is the official leader).
Capable- Anna, the Valente 'heart' of the group and forgiving.

Toast- Gogo, the silent, snarky, short tough girl. Dag- a bit of Lilo, the quirky, observant one with some of Pocahontas' interest in nature and silent strength. It all depends on what they said. Sometimes people who are just honestly are expressing their opinion just get hated on intensely, then the people who present their opinion as fact basically start flame wars. Even still it still depends on what the opinion is, rather it's morally, physically or objectively disagreeing I think that only sometimes is it okay and not okay to present your opinion as a fact. And you can always assume if it comes out of someone's mouth that it's most likely opinion, especially if it's on a subject that people have different opinions for it. BUT I absolutely hate when I say something about my opinion and people feel threatened por it as if I mean it as an absolute fact, it's even happened with DP lists. over a year ago

Well, I finished watching Pocahontas 2: Journey To A New World and while I don't hate it as much as I did a few years atrás (back when I thought it was the worst disney movie EVER), it's still pretty bad. One of my biggest disappointments with this movie is that it actually had the potential to be very good. It did continue the story and show what Pocahontas would've been like in a different environment. I like some of the ideas mais than the execution *continues to type in comments* Posted over a year ago
KataraLover commented…
Unfortunately, it's trying to appeal to those dumbass historians that complained that the original movie was historically inaccurate and didn't realize the simple fact that disney isn't supposed to educated but instead entertain people and that it's the teachers jobs to educate children. Anyway, it tries too hard to make it mais historically inaccurate but becomes contrived with a lot of other historical inaccuracies that clash with it, making it very clunky. The timeline is also pretty lazy because how would Pocahontas know that John Smith was dead if it had just happened but they said that much time had past since the news of his death? HOW? How is it that Ratcliffe managed to manipulated the King when he said himself he was never a popular man and that Jamestown was his last shot? How was he able to go against the word of the other settlers that arrested him for treason? HOW? Plus Pocahontas and John Rolfe's relationship is very forced, contrived, and unnecessary. over a year ago
KataraLover commented…
Rolfe's character development feels even mais forced than Smith's (who I felt was done decently) and doesn't even feel like he changed that much. The relationship with Pocahontas and Smith was destroyed por having her seem so emotionless with finding out he was alive and him no longer understanding her. WHAT IS THE DEAL? The only good things are the idea of Pocahontas going to London, the decent animation, the songs, the emotional goodbye between Pocahontas and Nakoma, Mrs. Jenkins, for the most part staying true to the characters, John Rolfe (who is a decent character), and that guy that never talks and has that stick. Overall, yeah, it's an awful movie but no where near one of the worst disney movies. But it's definitely one of the worst disney sequels. over a year ago
cruella commented…
I don't care much for either movie. And while I know the sequel isn't nearly as good as the first I still like it a little bit better. over a year ago
shanyuisboss commented…
I agree that the movie is terrible, I seriously hate it so much, I don't even acknowledge it's existence. Although regarding the thing about historical accuracy, I think the reason people criticized Pocahontas's lack of historical accuracy was mais because John Smith in real life wasn't a very good person. Portraying him as someone that falls in amor with a Native American woman just doesn't make any sense for the real jerk he was. People will kind of start to look at him like a good guy or whatever. I'm just saying, this is why they criticize the accuracy. Not that I really care much at all. over a year ago

I HATE when superstitions that people tell me that I say are wrong end up seeming to be true. What I mean por this is that my sister-in-law told me that how you spend New Years is how you'll spend the entire year, which of course I didn't believe because I'm not superstitious. Okay, I have several perguntas about the live movie viewing I mentioned yesterday:
1. Should there be one or mais live movie viewings a week? If more, how many?
2. What day(s) of the week should they be on? Should we do any on holidays?
3. Should we watch 1 DP movie for one week, and then a disney movie the following week? Or should it be the other way around? Or 1 DP and 1 disney movie in one week?
4. Would you like the comments from the live movie viewings to be put in an article? Posted over a year ago

1. One a week; 2. Fridays or Saturdays. In holidays... I'm not sure. I think some of us would like to watch a disney movie in a cozy natal morning, but we'll have to see how it works out first; 3. We should vote for whst movie we'd like to see, with no distinction between princess and non-princess. After all, there are just a few DP movies; 4. Yes, that would show what thd consensus is. over a year ago

Just a aleatório (possibly horrible) idea: I think it'd be interesting if a large group of people from this club watched a disney or disney Princess movie at the same time. Just watched início on the Range. It's not the first time I've seen it, but the first time since I was a child. Now I was able to look at it from a mais critical point of view. It's really mediocre, with is slapstick humor (slaptick can be hilarious, but it must be done right) and brain-scratching, contrived plot. I don't get why Alameda Slim's yodeling hypnotizes the cattle, nor why the cow Grace is immune to it due to cantar off-key. Posted over a year ago
Silverrose1991 commented…
There were at least two jokes I found funny, though: one was when Mrs. Calloway said "Haven't you heard of sarcasm?" (I don't know how it's worded in the English dubbing), and the other... I can't remember now. It definitely was witty, and not slapsticky, though. The animation is good... Maybe a bit too cartoony, but it suits the movie's style. The soundtrack is really, really good - the Brazilian soundtrack, at least. I don't know about the original. The characters... I like the farmer Pearl, the Sheriff's dog, the livestock and the villain is decent. However, his nephews and the guy who buys cattle from him are sooooo annoying. Even their design is an eyesore. Buck, the horse, is even mais annoying. He's so selfish and self-centered! Ugh, I absolutely loved the scene where the cows refused to help him get into Slim's hideaway. over a year ago
Silverrose1991 commented…
Speaking of the cows... They're promising, Mrs. Calloway in particular (though I hate her hat gag), and their dynamics are mostly OK, but it felt so much like I was watching some sort of Flora, Fauna and Merryweather wannabe sketch. But the most disappointing - and perhaps, at the same time, the most comforting thing - about início on the Range is that it doesn't feel like a disney movie. over a year ago

I've finally seen Muppets Most Wanted and it's good but it's not exactly great and definitely not as good as the original. I mean, the original was just as long but I found myself mais engaged in the plot and the characters. Plus I don't like that she played the damsel in distress (since she's such a badass) but they did fix that *continues to type in comments* Posted over a year ago
KataraLover commented…
I guess I can forgive her damsel in distress moment because she does defeat the villain in the end but I find it hard to believe that she got caught in the first place. I mean, when you see how she can take down pretty much anyone with out badass she is. It just seem a little out of character in my opinion. The jokes are funny but a lot of them are pretty forced, the songs are even cheesier than the songs in the original, the characters aren't as fleshed out, it's kind of gimmicky, and I wish that Kermit and Miss Piggy would GET MARRIED ALREADY! Anyway, it's a good movie and I do find the last third to be the most engaging part but I just couldn't feel much for it. But when I first saw the trailer for it, I thought it would be stupid but it wasn't. So I do recommend it, but not highly. over a year ago

I ADORE that movie and actually like it mais than the animated one because it actually keeps it's focus on cinderela instead of the stupid mice and cat. It's a brilliant film that shows how a live-action remake should be done. Not to deviate too much from the original fonte material but also do something new. I'm glad you enjoyed it! over a year ago
