she does have her selfless momments but turning her mother into a bear (though not in purpose) and not thinking about what could happen to the kingdom definitely makes her lose points

Silverrose1991 picked Merida:
(I'll just past my comment from the last round)

She doesn't want an arranged marriage - ok, I understand that, can't blame her. But she actually puts that above her people and her family's safety:

"Call off the gathering! [...] We'll expect your declarations of war in the morning!"

She also gives a potion to alter her mother's mind - that was really selfish, even if she was left emotionally shaken by her confrontation with Elinor. And it doesn't stop there: when Elinor is agonizing in bed, she pesters her mother with questions about the marriage. She doesn't worry for her mother and say "Mom, should I call for help?" And even after she sees her mother has turned into a bear, all she can think of is how things went awry for her. Nevermind that she tries to shift away from the blame.

She does get points though, because just before the climax of the movie, during her speech to the clans, she shows she is willing to marry if that means keeping the peace. But I still feel like she commits more selfish acts than any of the other princesses. Oh, and I think that trying to reverse the spell and ensuring Elinor's safety while she is a bear was her responsibility, seeing as she got her mother in that situation in the first place.

(Btw, I'm not hating on Merida. She's not my favorite of the bunch, but I rather like her character)

(And now here's a new section)

Regarding Ariel, I think that aside from not attending the music rehearsals and the concert and also putting Sebastian in a delicate position by asking him to keep secrets from King Triton, she wasn't selfish. Sure, she still would be the next one in my list, right after Merida. But I think that the whole leaving her family thing was most out of emotional manipulation and pressure than selfishness.

She's worse with her selfishness than Ariel is. Ariel changed her own identity out of emotional trauma, not simply because she didn't love her family. Merida changed her mother's identity because she took a dispute way too far. That will never sit right with me.

I love Merida, and I understand that she felt pressured and trapped, but yeah she is undeniably self-centered. Ariel deserved to leave first though.

Probably followed by Poca and Tiana.

She should have been the first to go.

How the hell did Ariel leave before her? Ariel is selfish (though no more than a normal person), but should've at least have stayed longer than Merida who would prefer others to go to war and suffer just so she doesn't have to get married.

@UN: Ariel deserving to leave first is only your opinion. It's not shared by me.

@Angelica_AW: I agree. Merida is the most selfish of the DPs.

@wavesurf, chill. obviously every comment on this poll is someone's opinion - do i need to preface all my comments with "imo' now just because i said something negative about one of your favorites? geez. i understand the need to protect characters you like but you need to stop being so aggressive about it.

you'll note that i didn't call you out for your opinions or treat them as a personal attack; it would be super rad if you could do the same.

^Hmm. It's rad when you don't rub your victory in. Here, you did. But from here on out, I'll pretend I didn't read it.

Or Merida. It seems like Elsa puts herself before Anna or her kingdom's needs.

My victory? Could you be more overdramatic about this? It's only a poll; I didn't win anything. I was just part of the majority who felt Ariel had to go. Maybe you need to step back and ask yourself why you felt that you personally lost something here and why it means so much to you. And maybe understand that being so emotionally invested this poll that's supposed to be just for fun is affecting how you talk to people who disagree with you.

All I said ( initially) was that it was your opinion, and I disagreed with it.. And yeah, you kind of did make a big deal out of it all, by going for the deserves route. Oddly enough, it seems you're just as emotionally invested in this poll, despite calling me out for that. Suit yourself. You're not blaming me for anything.
