KataraLover picked Aurora:
She stops talking halfway through the movie and nothing about her to me seems like an interesting conversationalist in the very least from what we saw of her.

audreygrace412 picked Ariel:
She doesn't listen to others when they speak to her, she often zones out and focuses on something else that catches her attention. She also never seems to really ask anyone else about themselves or initiate conversation with others unless for selfish reasons (especially Scuttle, Flounder & Sebastian) though I grant that she lost her ability to speak to Eric for most of the time around him.

Elsa does very well conversationally as she hadn't spoken to Anna in many years, hardly anyone in 3 years, yet she was better at conversation than Anna was. She initiated the conversation with Anna and asked about her, complimented her and bonded with her over a shared love of chocolate.

wavesurf picked Tiana:
^Ouch. Ariel has way more people skills than shut-in Elsa. Elsa just opened with pleasantries, and stuck to love of chocolate. That's not the same thing as Ariel trying to communicate with her father ( though ineffectively because of his xenophobia), and Ariel seeking knowledge of what she does not know from other characters ( scuttle may be featherbrained, but Ariel shows some wisdom in asking somebody else when she doesn't understand something, instead of making assumptions). Ariel does actually listen to what Sebastian and King Trition say, before she shrugs and zones out.

Elsa makes assumptions all the time. Elsa assumes she will hurt Anna again. Elsa assumes that people will kill her when her powers are revealed. ( All of this could be possible, but it could just as equally not happen. Elsa relies on her assumptions all of the time, though.) Also, liking chocolate is not exactly a great icebreaker, either. It is a factoid that goes on your blog, but as for showing real communication? A thirty second scene of 'hello, how are you?' 'I like your dress' and 'you like chocolate? I do, too' -- really is at the bottom rung of displaying great social skills. It's at the fairly basic level of communication.

Early on, Tiana prides herself on autonomy and being self-sufficient. She actively despises other people's intervention in her life, except for Charlotte's. Later on, Tiana is made to converse with Naveen, Louis, Ray, and Mama Odie. But Tiana has only three settings for active conversation-- talking about work, becoming human again, and her father's restaurant. I especially got tired of hearing about the restaurant during the last thirty minutes of the film...yerk, yerk... especially when Tiana blows off Naveen's interest in being included as part of the "collective" restaurant dream. Tiana doesn't quite listen to Mama Odie, either. This gets to me after a while.

Despite their problems, though, Tiana and Ariel have way more social skills than Elsa has.

audreygrace412 picked Ariel:
^ The question wasn't about people skills, it was about conversation skills.

Your argument is Elsa's actions vs. Ariel's potential and your subjective opinion about her undisclosed thoughts, so it doesn't actually compare and that's too subjective to debate anyway.

If you think Tiana and Ariel both have more social skills than Elsa then why did you choose Tiana and not Elsa?

wavesurf picked Tiana:
^Because there was not an option that allowed me to select both, and Elsa is not a DP anyway...she's in her own franchise, and she's a queen. Tiana is a princess.

It's not Ariel's "potential." Ariel does have more conversations period than Elsa has. Elsa has less characterization than Ariel. Less characterization does not automatically mean Elsa's a great conversationalist. Not at all.

^ Just making sure you didn't accidentally pick Tiana if you meant Elsa. :)

I understand your argument but I personally don't consider more conversations to mean better at conversations.

^Characterization helps the protagonist(s) become credible. Multiple instances are required ( for me) to assess how a character fully interacts with others, along with him/her having more varied conversations with other people---not just a select few. That's why Elsa ( a recluse) is below Tiana, and Tiana (who nitpicks until she drives people away) is below Ariel on my list.

^ I understand. I find Ariel to be the only DP to become un-engaged in almost every conversation she's in, over and over. I find Tiana to have both very negative and positive tones in her communication though always engaged and responsive. I find Elsa to be amazing at conversation for a recluse because she is engaging and respective of others in a conversation, making sure they are engaged as well.

anukriti2409 picked Tiana:
I think Tiana is hardly ever interested in talking to anyone, except it is either a part of her job or only when she thinks someone can contribute to her restaurant. She avoids talking to strangers because she think she's wasting her time by socializing. She gets to talk to Naveen because she got into a situation, otherwise she's hardly wanting to talk or know about different things or experiences.

I think Ariel has a more conversation skills than Tiana.
