I’m composição literária this over a little bit of frustration I’ve been having. So if you’re a easily offended Delena fan, I suggest that you quit leitura here, as this will be very pro-Bamon and Stelena and very anti-Delena.
Let me just state that Bonnie being my favorito character is NOT the reason I ship Bamon. For the record, it’s not even true, because DAMON SALVATORE is my favorito character in the Vampire Diaries book series, and probably my favorito fictional character of all time. I amor Bonnie, but she is in no way, my favorito character in the books. She’s probably my…4th? Yep, it goes Damon, Matt, Stefan, Bonnie, and Meredith. I could go on and on about why Damon is my favorito character in the series, but since it’s not the main focus of this article/rant, i’ll mover on.
For me, Damon/Elena is a very un-healthy, selfish relationship. I DO get the appeal of it, I really do, but there is just so many things wrong with it. I understand why people like them. They’re one of those love/hate passionate relationships that even I normally eat up most of the time. Examples: Sam/Freddie (ICarly), Ron/Hermione (Harry Potter), and Patch/Nora (Hush Hush). I GET it. But the thing that makes the Damon/Elena dynamic different from the pairings I listed is that a love/hate relationship is NOT what Damon or Elena want or need. What Damon and Elena crave, as individuals, is an understanding relationship.
Let’s face it: Neither Damon or Elena are NOT the most selfless characters around. They have both been selfish, conceited, and VERY misunderstood their entire lives. They’ve always put themselves in front of everyone. Examples: Elena dumping Matt just so she could chase the new guy (Stefan) and Damon going out of his way to make Elena his “Princess of Darkness”, not stopping to consider that maybe, just MAYBE it wouldn’t be something she’d want.)
The point is, Damon and Elena have always put themselves at the topo, início of their priority list, until two very important people came into their lives: Bonnie and Stefan.
(Next Part is about Stefan/Elena, so if you don’t care about them and just want to read about my reasons for Bamon, feel free to skim down)
I’ll start with Stefan/Elena: To be honest, the Stefan/Elena dynamic DID start off as sort of selfish, because Elena had dumped Matt, made Meredith and Bonnie swear to help her get Stefan, and even went out of the way to spread rumors about Stefan in an attempt to “get him”.
But that all ended when she finally did win him over, and they fell in love. Once Elena fell in amor with Stefan, and began to see what an incredibly selfless, and kind-hearted character he was she wanted TO BETTER herself. She loved Stefan so much that she wanted to make him proud of her, and for him to amor her just as much as she loved him, and to do that, she wanted to make herself a better person.
Is it a coincidence that Elena began to become a mais bearable character to me after she met Stefan? NO. It’s because Stefan brings out the best in Elena, and vice-versa. Elena makes Stefan mais of a determined, and strong character. In terms of the books, Stefan has a VERY low self-esteem. He always puts himself down, saying he doesn’t deserve happiness (because he still carries the constant guilt of everything that went down with Damon and Katherine). But Elena CHANGES that. Elena makes Stefan feel worthy again, and mais of a head-strong character. She brings out the PASSION in him, and makes him feel alive again.
And while many Delena fãs say that the Delena scenes in the books are powerful and intense…my response: Intense? Maybe. Powerful? No. And my reasons for that are that the emotions that Elena feels around Damon may be intense and passionate, but it isn’t really the feelings Elena really seeks or NEEDS.
Elena needs to feel comforted and safe. When I read Delena scenes, many of the thoughts running through Elena and Damon’s thoughts are words like “passion”, “fire”, and ect. And again, while many people amor those types of things, for me, it doesn’t equal to a healthy, or happy relationship.
When I read Stelena scenes, however, I hear words like “Heaven”, “Safe”, and “Solace”. When Stefan and Elena are together, they both feel utterly seguro and happy, and being apart from each other KILLS them (even when Elena beijar Damon while they were in the Dark Dimension, she was always constantly worrying about and missing Stefan). And when Elena had died at the end of “The Fury” Stefan wanted to KILL himself. He was going to take his own life, because he couldn’t bare the thought of Elena being dead, and he would have, if Damon hadn’t stopped him and made him remember the promise he had made to Elena before she died:That he and Damon would take care of each other).
Notable Scene: “This was the best feeling in the world, the knowledge that she and Stefan were together, and she made Stefan promise her over and over that he would not ever leave her on another quest again, no matter how briefly, no matter the cause.
por now, Elena could not even focus on what she had been worried about before. She and Stefan had always found heaven in each other’s arms. They were meant to be together forever. Nothing else mattered now that she was home.
“Home” was where she and Stefan were together.”
Elena and Stefan have proven that THEY CAN’T LIVE WITHOUT EACH OTHER. They need, and CRAVE the other to be in their lives, and they help the other grow as individual characters.
And just for the record, for people who think Stelena fell in amor too fast well, that’s a little thing called the “Soul Mate” connection, it tends to happen sometimes. Examples: Romeo/Juliet, Jack/Rose, and ect.
(Okay, now here comes the Bamon)
Now that I got my opinions of Stelena across, it’s time to talk about my favorito couple of all time: Bamon.
I’ve shipped Bamon since the Clearing Scene in Dark Reunion (when Bonnie had looked into Damon’s eyes, and saw “stars” in them). That scene had just made my coração melt (like many Bamon scenes do anyway) because it showed that even back then, Bonnie had a good understanding of Damon. AND WITHOUT TRYING.
That’s one of the BIG differences between Damon/Bonnie and Damon/Elena. Bonnie can see inside Damon’s soul, and understand him WITHOUT EVEN TRYING. Bonnie wasn’t trying to crack open the stone that has held Damon’s soul for over five centuries, she did simply because she was there. Heck, when Bonnie first cracked open the stone encasing Damon’s soul, she hardly even knew what was going on.
Notable Scene: “His neck hurt fiercely, but mais cracks were spreading all over the stone; it was going to explode completely, letting the Damon it held inside out-and he was too drunk on pride and joy, yes, joy, to care. Cracks were spreading in every direction, pieces of stone flying off…”
This was a scene from the Bamon “Bathtub Scene” (which, in my opinion, is the most epic scene in all of the “Vampire Diaries” Books). And THIS had happened simply from Damon holding Bonnie after saving her life.
Now why is it that Bonnie can crack open the stone like that without trying while Elena has to TRY and use her “Angel Wings” to even get anything close to that in terms of Damon’s soul? Because let’s be honest: Elena had never ONCE done something like that before for Damon in the original first four books, before she had come back from the dead with her “wings”, and she had mais scenes with Damon. Now if Elena was really the main cause of Damon’s soul finally coming out and breaking through the stone, wouldn’t it have happened a while ago?
But nope. It was Bonnie McCullough who had first cracked open Damon Salvatore’s hard stone, NOT Elena Gilbert.
Another thing many Delena fãs like to claim is that Damon and Elena have a deep understanding for each other. And to be perfectly honest, I couldn’t disagree mais with that statement.
In a way, I guess Damon and Elena COULD understand each other in some way, since they both have some of the same characteristics in personality. Both can be extremely selfish, and conceited. But they don’t understand each other at all in other aspects (a big sign of that is half the time when I read Damon or Elena’s perspectives on each other, they go on, and ON about the other’s looks *Rolls eyes*)
Damon constantly talks about making Elena his “Princess of Darkness”. And here’s what’s probably going through his head when he’s thinking these things: Me, me, me, ME!
Damon NEVER thinks about what Elena might want in her future. It’s all about him. And that’s one of the things that makes Delena such a selfish dynamic in the books.
And Damon, from the looks of it, wants to continue being a vampire/hunter, and travel the world a live on the wild side. And Elena (like Stefan) wants to get married, and settle down in Fell’s Church. Heck, I don’t even think Elena wants to be a vampire (she’s made it clear through out the series, and you could tell she was miserable during her brief time as a vampire in “The Fury”).
The point is, Damon and Elena have ENTIRELY different goals and expectations for their future, which is another of the many reasons why I don’t think they could ever work.
And while I don’t know what Bonnie really has planned for her future, I can tell that she is less passionate about it and mais open-minded in terms of her future then Elena or Meredith are. She doesn’t talk about getting married, and doesn’t even seem excited about going to college or starting a career, which makes me believe that she would be mais willing to cadastrar-se Damon in immortal life then Elena would be.
And like Stefan stated in the short story “Blood Will Tell”: “He could DEFINITELY see Bonnie walking on the wild side with Damon”.
Damon and Bonnie understand each other. Better then anyone else.
In “Midnight”, when Stefan and Elena had arrived in the Dark Dimension to “save” Bonnie from Damon, Elena had yelled at him and slapped him, without giving him a chance to explan himself.
And Bonnie had DEFENDED Damon from Stefan and Elena.
Notable Scene: “Damon doesn’t mean to be such a―a bastard,” Bonnie said explosively. “He’s just―so often he feels like it’s the three of us against him―and―and”
“Well, who started that? Even back riding the thurgs,” Stefan said.
“I know, but there’s something else,” Bonnie said humbly. “Since it’s only snow and rock and ice―he’s―I don’t know. He’s all tight. Something’s wrong.”
And let’s not forget that it was mostly about what happened to Bonnie that Stefan and Elena were mad about. Out of the three of them, Bonnie had the MOST right to be mad at Damon, but she DEFENDED him. It just shows how much she unconditionally loves and cares about him.And the fact that Bonnie forgives and defends Damon like she does shows how much she trully UNDERSTANDS him, unlike Elena, who just screams at him whenever she suspects he had done something.
But it’s not just Bonnie being able to understand Damon. In my opinion, Damon greatly understands Bonnie as well.
Through out the books, from the perspectives of Elena, Meredith, Stefan, and Matt, they all consider Bonnie as being “fragile and breakable”, not able to take care of herself. And while Damon does have a caring nature towards Bonnie, and wants to help her when she’s in trouble, it’s evident that he see’s her potential to get past her insecurities. He see’s her as mais then just a fragile individual.
Notable Scene: ”You are bravest when you’re scared”, Damon thought.
While Bonnie is small and fragile on the outside, I think Damon truly see’s that there’s mais to her then meets the eye, even better then her family and friends who she’s known since Kindergarten (Elena and Meredith).
Notable Scene: “I don’t want your filthy slave”, he snarled. “I want my own back! She’s worth…” Here he came to a stop , trying to calculate how many ordinary girls Bonnie was worth. A hundred? A thousand?“She is worth infinitely mais —” he begun.
And like Stefan/Elena, Damon/Bonnie being out the ultimate best in each other.
Bonnie brings out the caring and tender side of Damon, that makes him want to “Protect her no matter what she’s done”, as said por L.J Smith. She makes Damon feel ultimate care towards someone other then himself. NEVER ONCE have I ever heard Damon have genuine selfish thoughts towards Bonnie, and if he did, it was mainly because his mind was clouded up por another want or need. (Example: Damon wanted to become a vampire again, and left Bonnie in that inn).
But it hadn’t been his intention to hurt Bonnie. And he was TERRIFIED when he realized Bonnie was missing. You could literally feel his gut-wrenching terror and worry while leitura the book, and it was obvious that he was going to do whatever it took to find her.
Notable Scene: Damon was left with a feeling he didn’t often have. Sickening terror. He really was beginning to believe that this time he had cut it too fine; that he would be too late to save his redbird. That any of several dreadful scenarios might have played out before he got to her.
He couldn’t stand to visualize them in detail. What he would do if he didn’t find her in time…
And then there was the anger he felt when he found out she was hurt.
Notable Scene: “They hurt you, didn’t they, little bird? I saw… I saw your face,” Damon said in his new choked-up voice.
Bonnie didn’t know what to say. But suddenly she didn’t mind how hard he squeezed her. She even found herself squeezing back.
Suddenly, to her shock, Damon broke the Koala-grip and pulled her up and kissed her on the lips very gently.
“Little redbird! I’m going to go now, and make them pay for what they did to you”
And then with Bonnie, Damon brings out a mais Valente side of her. During the scene in Midnight, when Shinchi was threatening her to tell him information on what had happened to Misao’s estrela ball, Bonnie had been so brave. And the whole time, thoughts of Damon were engulfing her mind, and it made her stronger.
DAMON MAKES BONNIE mais OF A MATURE AND Valente PERSON. He is the reason she is developing as a character, just like Bonnie is the reason Damon is developing.
Both of the pairings, Bamon, and Stelena, help all of the characters grow as individual characters. Bonnie and Stefan are two selfless, though slightly timid characters that bring out the selfless and tender side of Damon and Elena (Damon has died for Bonnie, and Elena for Stefan) and Damon and Elena, two headstrong, and selfish characters bring out the passion and determination from Bonnie and Stefan.
With Delena, you got two selfish characters, and no character development whatsoever.
I don’t ship Bamon because I like Bonnie and want her with Damon just because he’s my favorito character. I ship Bamon because I think it will bring ULTIMATE happiness for both characters, like Stelena’s connection makes Elena and Stefan beyond happy.
Like someone else once said on Fanpop, there is a deep comparison between how Damon feels about Bonnie and Elena. Is it a coincidence that Damon constantly refers to Elena as a “Princes of Darkness”(I honestly don’t know why Delena fãs think this name is a good thing) and Bonnie as “The Last Reach towards light” in After Hours? Don’t think so.
For me, Elena is Damon’s “Darkness”. Because his intentions towards her are selfish, and he isn’t getting the ultimate redemption and happiness he’s secretly seeking. If Damon chooses the path of “Darkness” he is never going to get anywhere and he will remain in the dark and unhappy.
Bonnie is Damon’s “Light”. She is his ultimate path to redemption and happiness.
Now with that being said, rant finally OVER :)
