now i realise joss whedon did not want to ego boast hmself within the character buffy....unless there's a lot about joss we do not know yet
however someone wrote this great article on the "mary sue" character and well every single part of it fits buffy perfectly....which would explain the sort of insane love or dislike people have the character buffy....what do you think?

it seems people love the mary-sue character, why is it called a mary-sue character?

Buffy definietly has a lot of those qualities, I think the only one she didn't have was #10. Still love her though.

I think she was a little at times.. but on the whole she wasn't. Maybe seasons 1-3.. when every boy was in love with her (that's a sure sign of a Mary-Sue). But when Parker happened, it felt to me like a conscience decision to break her out of the Mary-Sue mold. Buffy Summers getting rejected? Now she's a real girl!

And actually, I'm not terribly fond of the Mary-Sue character at all, in fact I usually can't stand her. In television, we have to change the rules a little bit.. since not every show involves the Supernatural. Some of the most notable Mary-Sues that I can think of are Rory Gilmore (who I like despite the fact that she's a Mary-Sue, but she's not the character on that show that I empathize with) and Lana Lang.. who is so ridiculous a Mary-Sue that I want to puke.
