Chapter 1
“No! Mom!” Kate watched in horror as her mom was shot from afar. Scarlet streaked across the sky like lightning. Her dad, part of the Alpha pack, quickly ran past Kate scooping her up por her scruff, and carried her off to a seguro area. Immediately when Kate’s dad dropped her, he was shot. She watched in horror as his blood spilled out onto the grass. Seth ran up to him. He opened his mouth to speak. “Seth... As the...” He coughed. “Last... member of the delta pack...” Alpha was highest, then beta, and finally delta. Beta’s were defenders and Delta’s were to keep the fun in the pack and to break up fights when needed. “Take care of Kate... Don’t let the hunters...” His voice trailed off. His mouth began trembling as he took his final, painful, shallow, gulp of air, and finally succumbed to his wound. “Ah....” Kate whined in sorrow. “Follow me!” Kate’s eyes were wavy with tears. She put one paw over Seth’s shoulder. She held her face close to his flank and stared at her father’s cold body for several moments longer until she finally agreed to leave. A pomba flew overhead. It was surprised at the bloodshed. It flew away disbelieving and unscathed.
“AH!” Kate leapt from where she was sleeping. She looked around. Springtime. The tweets of birds and the smells of malmequer, marigold, calêndula and honeysuckle. She yawned and realised where she was. She was in the tunnel. Underneath the tree, She yawned and began crawling towards the exit of the tunnel. Before she could reach the exit, a familiar face came to the entrance of the tunnel. Seth’s furry mouth had two beavers hanging por the tail in his jaws. He immediately dropped both beavers upon seeing Kate awake. “Kate! Good morning!” He ran inside and rubbed his face against hers. “Good morning to you too Seth, and,” She pushed him away. “What are you doing?” She asked annoyed. She finally exited the tunnel and stretched. “Hey Kate...” Seth repeated. “Hey Seth!” She replied. She looked down to the beavers at her paws. “What are these for?” She asked. She looked up at him confused. “I got up really early and got us breakfast...” Seth said. “Thanks!” She looked thankful for the first time in the morning. She crouched down into a hunter’s stance and took a big bite of beaver. He looked at her with amor in his eyes, but then he remembered his pack way. Alpha’s could only mate with Alpha’s, beta’s with beta’s and delta’s with delta’s. Kate was an alpha. He was a delta. Blood wet her tawny muzzle. Seth wasn’t hungry. The thought of seeing Kate marry another Alpha made him angry and jealous just thinking of it. Kate almost forgot her dream. She hesitated to take another bite. Seth sensed it and questioned it. “Kate, you’re hesitating... Has something happened?” Kate was surprised at how he could read her body language. “Y-yes... I... had a dream... Our pack-.” She was cut off por Seth. “That did happen. Look around you. It happened not seven days ago. We only got a few hours away before fatigue.” Kate looked around yet again. Not her familiar surroundings. “Then why are you here? Because during your courting session, hunters shot everyone. They almost got us but your dad told me to protect you. I did. I think we lost the hunt-“ Seth was interrupted por a cracking of the bush. Kate stopped and turned to the bush. “What was that?” Kate questioned. “Nothing.... I didn’t hear anything...” Seth said. A dart flew unseen and unheard and hit Kate on the thigh. Her pupils became very big and she walked as if she was drunk. She looked up at Seth. “Say... You’re kind of cute...” She said. She rubbed against Seth. “Um, really? I would of liked rugged better but i’ll take cute as a compliment!” Seth said. Then he was hit with a dart as well. “Whoa... You’re... wobbly....” Seth said half asleep. finished. "Uh..." Kate’s voice trailed off. She and Seth both fell asleep. Out from the bush, stepped two hunters. “Alright. Pack them up. We’re going to paradise falls....”
Seth woke up in a cold, dark, metal box. “Whoa! Ah!” Seth shook from side to side. “LET ME OUT!” Seth heard a familiar voice. “Kate!” “Seth! Where are we?” “I don’t know Kate...” “AH!” Kate smashed her box into Seth’s. “Ow! Hey! Kate! Calm yourself! Maybe they’re taking us to where mais lobos are....” “Or maybe, we’re going to get eaten!” “Oh.... never thought of that... Keep fighting Alpha wolf! FIGHT FIGHT FIGHT!” Seth finished. A huge bump in the road appeared in front of the truck. The two drivers ran right over it. The bump shook Seth and Kate. The two boxes flew off the truck. “AHHHH!” The two lobos screamed. They tossed and turned, tossed and turned. “Ow my back.... Ow my head! Ow my back... Ow my-,” Seth didn’t finish when the box finally hit a tree, cracked open and Seth could escape. He got out and found a tawny body lying sprawled across the ground. “Ah! Kate!” Seth ran to her side. He nuzzled her flank with his nose. “No... You can’t...” Seth didn’t need to finish. Her eyes opened and she slowly rose. “S-Seth?” She asked. “Kate... I thought I’d failed your dad...” Seth said sounding very relieved. “Same old Seth....” She said. She wrapped both her arms around him when she finally sat up. She hugged him tight. “Well obviously you hit your head hard because this has never happened...” Seth said. “Nope! I’m just kind of happy to see familiar sight...” She drew back and realised where she was. “Where are we?” She said. She looked left to right, but still had that confused look. “Well we were in Canada, but then the hunters...” Seth trailed off at the sound of a dove. Seth and Kate looked up to where the sound came from. Perched at the topo, início of a tree, sat a dove. Seth looked at Kate uneasily, and then he looked back at the dove. “Hello? Hello? Do you understand me?” Seth called out. “The pomba flew a few branches down and responded. “I do now.” It said. Kate looked confused but didn’t say anything. “Where are we?” Seth asked. “Why would I tell you?” The pomba responded in a know-it-all voice. “Or we’ll eat you limb por limb!” Kate snapped. Her lips curled back into a snarl. Her ears perked up. The pomba fluttered and flew to a higher branch. “I do not take threats lightly!” The pomba said. “Listen, ignore what my friend,” Seth put his paw in front of Kate gesturing for her to step back. “She didn’t mean that, we’ve been through a lot... Out friends and family shot before us... and we ‘re the last members of out packs...” The pomba craned its head at this. “Wait... Hunters? In Canada?” The pomba demanded. “Y-yes? Why?” Seth asked. Kate stepped up beside Seth but didn’t say anything. “I was overhead when that happened... That particular group of hunters thought that the lobos inhabiting that area were pests so they planned to eliminate them. The other group of hunters that tranquilized you and your girlfriend,” The pomba was interrupted por Kate. “WHAT!?” “You are boyfriend girlfriend, right? The other hunters brought you to paradise falls to, repopulate? Ha ha...” The pomba raised it’s eye brows at this. “AH!” Kate’s mouth gaped. She turned to Seth. His mouth gaped as well. Except his was turned into a huge smile complete with his tongue hanging out too. Kate took one paw and pushed Seth’s lower jaw up, closing his mouth. “Cool! Lets get started!” Seth said. Kate quickly pushed him away and took a few steps away from him as well. “Is there anyway to get home?” Kate asked trying to ignore Seth’s enthusiasm. “No!” The pomba started. “There, is nothing left except memories at that place! Besides, there is another lobo pack not 2 mês travel away!” Seth looked up at him still smiling. “Yes?” The pomba said one last time. “When you say repopulate,” “SETH!” Kate said smacking him with her paw. “Alright! Alright... Sheesh.... You’d think no one’s ever asked a pergunta around here...” “Will you help us get home?” “Sure!” Just follow me, the stars, and good luck Seth... por the way, I am Sam!” “Thank you Sam.” Said Kate, taking one last glance back at Seth.
