does he like me... or not?

Okay... so there's this boy at my school. He's the most popular boy at my school (he's student body officer president and all the girls amor him) and I think I might like him... But I'm not sure if he likes me. Last semester before our schedules changed, I had a lot of classes with him. But now I only have theater. It seems like he flirts with a lot of girls and he talks to every single girl in our grade, but when he talks to me he gets awkward, shuffles his feet nervously, and doesn't look me directly in the eye. It could be because he doesn't know me that well, but he also doesn't know my friend that well yet he still talks to her normally....
But I've caught him staring at me multiple times, and I've tried smiling at him but he always looks away, trying to hide his face before I get the chance to. I've only had a one-on-one conversation with him once (it was once) and he kind of seemed disinterested yet at the same time interested... He kept looking over at his mom and then left me, telling me "I'll be back" but he never came back so...
To be honest, I think he likes me but I don't want to get my hopes up and make brash assumptions... so... what do you guys think? Comment below if you need mais info or something, since I can't fit every detail in this pergunta thing since it'll get cut off.
