terrystuart545 Rodgers and Hammerstein put together an extra special Broadway show when they wrote this musical. The music is beautiful as well as comical and the comedy and drama work well together. Two songs that highlight the show are "We Kiss in a Shadow" and "I Have Dreamed". Anna Leonowens comes to Thailand to teach the king's children and soon Anna finds that she has to do things the king's way. Soon they fall in love. A girl hates to be commanded by the king all of the time, so one evening she meets her fiancee and their love is very passionate. The king learns that she is with him and is outraged and has the girl brought in to be whipped. Anna is very much against this and the king feels that he has been betrayed. As time goes by he loses strength and dies. A classic scene is where the king is reading the Bible and Anna comes in and the king commands her to come down and so she does. He looks at her with a surprised expression and says, "Your head must not be taller than mine." He's come up with a good idea and lies down on the floor. "You want me to lie down on the floor?", asks Anna. "All of my servants do this." He asks her questions and then all of a sudden gets up and says goodnight, and Anna smiles. Thailand and it's people are very much in the limelight in this movie. Yul sings "The King's song" in such a unique way that is all his own and which shows his true character. This is a movie you will want to watch over and over again.
