“Becca!”
A smile lit her face as Robin came towards her. Becca had purposefully stopped in Happy Harbor, choosing to visit Mt. Justice. Being with a team of her own was fun, but Becca had missed Young Justice mais than anything.
“Robin,” she said happily as he wrapped his arms around her.
“How are things?”
“Challenging. Being a leader is difficult work. Which can be fun.”
“How many bruises on your last mission?” Robin teased.
“Only ten! I'm improving.”
“If that's even possible.”
Becca stuck her tongue out at him but a blush was evident on her cheeks. She exited from his embrace to go greet the others, who were gathered in the Kitchen/Living room area. They were all glad to see her, Becca having been a big help throughout the few months she had been on the team.
“It's pretty quiet without you,” Artemis said. “I miss the loud noise from various fights.”
“Why thank you Artemis. My skills are superior to some,” Becca teased.
“Like Wally's?”
“Hey! Right here!”
Both girls laughed and Becca shook her head.
“I've missed your company,” Megan admitted. “You're the only one here who knows how to bake and will help me!”
Becca smiled brightly.
“I'll write down my tips and recipes for you. Okay?”
“That'd be helpful!”
“Hey Connor. How are things?”
“Same.”
Becca smirked. Not very talkative, Connor was able to chat with her only using one syllable. She gave him a small hug before turning to Kaldur. She put a fist to her forehead playfully.
“O wise leader.”
Kaldur smiled at her antics.
“Most amusing Becca. How is your team?”
“Uh...pained to say the least. We had a bad run in on our last mission. Still feeling the after effects.”
“Hmm. Who did you triumph against?”
“Poison Ivy. Remind me never to cut through her plant again.”
“Why? What happened?” Artemis inquired.
“She flipped out and scratched my back with her thorned demon!”
“Ouch! How bad?”
“Bleeding for a few days.”
“Aww! That bad?”
“Yeah. And of course that only made me angry. So what started as a battle of inflictions turned into a full on war!”
“I thought you only had ten bruises,” Robin commented.
“Yeah ten bruises and scars everywhere else. Stupid plants.”
Artemis cracked a smile. Becca was hilarious when she was worked up.
“What of the others?” Kaldur asked.
“They weren't foolish enough to interfere. Which I am happy about. I wouldn't have wanted them to be in as much pain as I am.”
“That's a first,” Wally commented.
Becca came over and whacked his head before hugging him.
“You can be very idiotic at some times.”
“So can you,” Wally retorted.
Becca shrugged her shoulders and sat up on the counter.
“So what brings you to Happy Harbor?”
“Nothing much. Just a few simplicities. And to see some of my best friends.”
“Thanks. We missed you.”
“I've missed you guys too. But duty calls so I can't really be here.”
“I know,” Robin grumbled.
Becca winked at him and smiled.
“Sorry. But the girls have needed me. And they are determined to have me as leader until one of them surpasses me. Which I would be fine with. And they aren't too keen on my leaving.”
“Neither were we.”
Becca shook her head. Ever since she left the team, Robin had been mais clingy than ever. Not that she was complaining. But it could get a little tiring on some rare occasions.
“I know. And I'm sorry. But...I can't be everywhere at once. You guys know that. And I am needed somewhere else right now. The idea sounded good. And it still is. But I just can't think about rejoining Young Justice right now. The girls and I are still working hard and we deserve your respect. Sure. I understand that we are called the weaker sex. But we are out to prove people wrong. And we would all amor it if we had your support.”
“You do. We just miss you Becca.”
“I miss you guys too. But now is the time for me to find my own strength. I can't always count on someone being there to save me.”
A beeper went off and Becca pulled hers out.
“What is it Erin?” she asked.
“Poison Ivy escaped from Arkham. Bats wants us out there.”
Becca sighed, shaking her head.
“Okay. Where are you guys?”
“Just outside Gotham, headed for Central.”
“Damn. Alright. I'll be there in five.”
Becca put her com link away and turned towards them.
“I gotta go. But I'll visit again later. Promise.”
The others nodded and watched her walk away. Robin followed her, grabbing her had before she exited.
“Robin.”
“Becca...I'm sorry.”
“I know. And I know that this is all just because we never talked about my leaving the team. I'm sorry but...things just aren't right. We need to talk. Later?”
“Yeah.”
Becca smiled, giving him a quick kiss before leaving. The mais he thought about it though, the mais Robin felt like something bad was going to happen. Somehow, they were going to be torn apart. And Robin hoped to Heaven, Hell, and back that it wouldn't happen.
