"Glad you're back!"
Megan flew into the room as soon as I got in. "Jenny! Glad you're back!" She stood in front of me, smiling.
Kid Flash zoomed to my side. "Yeah, welcome back! Um, where were you again?"
I laughed. "I was patrolling Gotham City when I ran into Mr. Freeze."
Erica walked into the room casually. "Anyone else?"
I looked down. "Maybe."
Aqualad folded his arms. "You wanted to tell us something."
At that moment, I remembered what Red Arqueiro told me just 15 minutos ago. "Right. I'm planning to go to New York to learn Firebending!"
Erica cringed, but I pretended not to notice.
"Who's gonna teach you?" KF asked.
"This superhero named Firestar," I answered.
"Let's go!" Megan said as Superboy and Artemis came into the room.
"Wait. Who said you were going with me?" I didn't need to carry extra baggage.
"Well, you are 15," Aqualad said. "And New York is a VERY big city."
"And you're gonna need the bioship!" Megan added.
I groaned. "I think I'm old enough to handle New York City. Besides, there are tons of Marvel heroes who could keep an eye on me!"
Erica stepped forward. "As your mentor, this would be a good opportunity for practicing being a team. Jeannette, I know what happened at the bank."
Gee, thanks, Erica. "It won't happen again," I promised.
Her eyes narrowed. "Right. It's either you go with the team, or you don't go at all."
I sighed. "Fine. But try to catch up." I spun around and headed for the terminal, keeping my mad face straight.
I buckled into the bioship, not mad anymore. I was actually very excited.
Who wouldn't be? New York! The Big Apple!
And I owed it all to Red Arrow, who pointed me there.
Which reminded me...
I looked around the bioship. In the time I had spent on the phone, the team was already flying.
"Where's Erica?" I asked, realizing that Robin was there without her.
"She decided to stay back at the mountain," Megan replied.
You know, this would be much easier if Erica would just teach me herself.
Robin frowned. "Do you know how much it hurts her, teaching you to be the Avatar? How much she misses the Spirit World? You're lucky she teaches you at all!"
God, how I hate how they could read my mind. "It's not like I CHOSE to be the seguinte Avatar, so you can't blame--"
"You don't even DESERVE the power of the Avatar!" he interrupted. "Erica was going to be her own superhero, and then YOU came along!"
"Robin, calm down," Aqualad soothed, but that just got him madder.
"You were better off working at your aunt's diner!" he yelled.
That stung. I unbuckled and stood in front of him, towering over his frail body. "Do you know WHY I worked at that stupid diner?!"
He didn't answer.
"That's the only way I could remember Mom!" I could feel the tears starting in my eyes, in memory of my dead mother.
"Well, I guess you've disappointed her," he said coolly.
"Robin!" Aqualad snapped.
That struck a nerve. I lunged at him, my hands reaching for his mask. I was going to expose his identity to the team.
He fell to the ground, with my body just a few inches from him. He wrestled me, but I didn't mover an inch.
Green hands came out of nowhere, and shoved us both to our seats.
"Sit down!" ordered Megan.
Aqualad stood, and locked the buckles on our seats. "No one is moving until we land. Robin, you better think of an apology. And Jeannette," he looked into my silver eyes. "You should try controlling your anger."
I looked away from the team, and stared at the wall. I took out my Iphone and stuck the earplugs into my ears, and turned my música on.
"Don't take him too seriously," KF told me mentally.
I turned the volume all the way up, determined to drown out their thoughts.
I could feel the Boy Wonder's eyes burning me, but I struggled to stare at the wall.
When that didn't work, I closed my eyes and sang along.
When we get back home, I was going to have a talk with Erica.
"Well, I guess you've disappointed her."
