New 'Twilight' Mini-Movies Shed Light on the Characters' Backstories

Ever wonder what Alice's life was like pre-Edward? You're about to find out.

Last year, author Stephanie Meyer\'s “The Storytellers: New Voices of the Twilight Saga" competition encouraged aspiring filmmakers to fill in the films\' blanks.

Fifteen females were chosen by Lionsgate, Meyer, and Kristen Stewart herself to produce seven shorts, each depicting the outside lives of characters from Alice to Carlisle to twins Jane and Alec, leaving mainstream stars of the show like Edward and Bella behind.

On deeming participation exclusive to women, Lionsgate said,

"Our choice to bring this opportunity to female writers and directors addresses a larger need for more content by, for, and about women.

"The focus of this Competition is to make sure fresh, new voices get the attention they deserve, by inviting bold female writers and directors with courageous and creative perspectives to embrace this opportunity!"

The short films have now arrived, and they\'re anything but light. Watch at your own risk, but if one particularly touches you, be sure to vote for it here. The winners will receive a hefty $100,000 and a 2015 Volvo XC90.
