Taking in a painful breath, I crawled to a nearby payphone and stuck some change in it. I hadn't thrown away the paper with the vampire and werewolf contact information. I dialed the Cullen's início phone. I was scared that they would have moved. I knew they moved every few years just like I did so that no one would know they weren't aging. They used to live only a few miles from La Push (where the lobos lived). Now they were about an hora and a half away.
Someone answered on the first ring "Hello?" I struggled to form coherent sentences "Um... this is Juliet. I umm... met you a few months ago." The freak show human. "Yes I remember you Juliet." The voice reassured me "This is Carlisle." Perfect. Now all I had to do was explain. I really didn't want to be telling him what had happened but if there was an doctor who would believe my bizarre story it had to be the vampire. "I'm sorry to intrude. As a doctor would you umm... believe someone who told you they were sort of crushed in a bike accident?" If he said yes that would be my story.
"Ah..." Carlisle mused as if what I said made sense "Unexpected voices a few minutos ago?" He asked "Yeah" I admitted. How did he know? "Are you hurt? Where are you? Oh never mind: Alice sees you. Are you hurt?" Why was he so concerned? "Um... I'll be fine." I said, though it didn't seem that way. I heard Alice talking to Carlisle "Tell her not to lie I can see her. And tell her we'll be there as soon as we can. Never mind you don't have to tell her she can hear me"
The crushing came again, along with the echo voice "No one's going to the Cullen's until we get this straightened out. Jacob will deal with that" I tried scream again. Again, the voice came out of the echo chamber "Is this Jul..." The voice broke off and the crushing stopped.
I realized that I hadn't hung up yet. I could hear Carlisle's worried voice from the dropped and forgotten phone "Are you alright? Juliet? Are you there?" Breathing hurt again "I'm here" I whispered "Please stay on the phone. I don't have any way to contact you if you hang up." I made a vague affirmative. "Have you been making mental connections with the wolves? Jacob called. Twice." Oh. The werewolves. It made sense. "I guess so" I replied lamely "I'm sorry I called I just needed a plausible story" I added. Carlisle's voice was gentle "I'm glad you called. You don't have to worry about anything. I'll treat you. When you're better we'll talk to the lobos and try to figure out how to avoid this. Alice, Jasper, Emmett, Rosalie and Edward are coming to get you. Bella and the lobos send their regrets at not being able to come: their presence would make it difficult for Edward and Alice to find you"
I felt myself nodding off, this new pain felt similar to phasing. I was almost asleep when I heard Carlisle's voice "Alice just called and said that you're not able to stay awake. That's fine just don't hang up"'
I woke up cold and opened my eyes. Vampires. I almost screamed before I remembered what had happened. I was still scared though. Rosalie picked me up gently. Alice called Carlisle while the others asked how I was. "I'm fine. I can just go to a normal doctor's office." I said, sounding weak even to my own ears. Rosalie answered smoothly "First: You look too young to go alone. Second: You don't know what kind of accident would cause your injuries. Third: You need to talk to the dogs. Fourth: The cachorros heal quickly. Carlilse thinks you will too if you're near them."
We were running now. "Close you're eyes" Edward instructed. "Sweet dreams in five minutos thirty-four seconds" Alice said smugly. Jasper laughed. I drifted in and out of sleep the whole way. At some point I changed from Rosalie to Edward then later from Edward to Emmett. I couldn't sleep in Emmett's arms. He was too terrifying. I heard Alice's voice "That carnival we just passed: Three thousand eight hundred forty-four geléia, geleia beans in the jar."
The wind around me ceased and I went from marble arms to a soft sofa. The vampire doctor started working on me as I explained the voices and the feeling of being crushed. "You were being crushed" Carlisle said. He looked concerned "You broke several ribs"
Just as Carlisle was finishing on me the lobos walked in. I wondered if the one I hadn't met was Seth or Sam or someone else. He was staring at me. "Sam and the others will be here soon" Jacob announced. Leah came nearest me "Are you gonna be OK?" I nodded. "I'll update Billy and my mom" She told Jacob.
A few minutos after she left the other pack came in. Sam was what caused the tears of fear that were already in my eyes to fall. He was tall (and I was on the sofa), grave, and intimidating to the extreme. "I'm sorry you were hurt" he said solemnly. Carlisle questioned him "What happened on your end?" Sam answered slowly "We think it's the Alpha Command that brings her in. She came in screaming at me. She told me to stop". Jacob spoke seguinte "The Alpha command crushes her? Why hasn't it happened before?" Carlisle said that it was probably because I hadn't phased before. So Sam was the one I had heard. He already scared me and now he had the power to crush me? Wonderful.
