Chapter 22
Dead end or a breakthrough?
“What?” Cadence asked for the umpteenth time, and I gave him an exasperated look.
“Again? Seriously Cadence, your supposed to be the one actually paying attention?” I say, frustrated.
Cadence flashed me a wicked smile. “Age is a number cupcake, I’m not that boring.”
I surpressed my smile as I told him and Jess everything that happened again.
“So,” Jess said after I was finished (again). “You think that she was the one that killed your sister, and tried to kill you?”
I nod, I look to Cadence who has a thoughtful expression. “Strange, it’s like she’s a ghost, how you described her, there but not there. Someone you wouldn’t give a segundo glance or thought to.”
I nodded again. “Dorothy always had a lot of friends, I didn’t know most of them, sometimes, neither did she.”
“That was just Dorothy,” Jess told Cadence. “Everyone knew her, she was the girl that everybody wanted to be her friend, and some pretended that they were, hanging out with her when she had no idea of who they were.”
“Creepy,” Cadence replied.
I nodded. “I can not tell you how many people I barely knew showed up to my birthday parties with these awesome gifts after they found out Dorothy and I were best friends.”
Jess grinned. “Me too, Dorothy and I, she was sweet and rragrded me as a close friend, and when word got out that she went to my B.day’s all of a sudden the whole school shows up.”
Cadnece whistled, looking to me. “Must’ve been something.”
I nodded. “She was.”
“Do you know where her whereabouts were before she died?”
I looked at him confusedly and he elaborated. “Did she say something about where she was going?”
I shook my head. “She just told me she’d be right back, it was dark out, and she was wearing ridiculous clothes for outside on a cool night. It was early in the morning when I noticed she hadn’t returned. And just when I went to knock on her door, somebody knocked on the front door.”
“The police?” Jess asked, even though she knew.
I nodded.
Jess cocked her head. “Strange…”
“What?” Both Cadence and I asked at the same time.
“How when your just about to knock on Dorothy’s door, that the police start knocking.”
I think about it. “Your right.”
“And Dorothy’s funeral?” Jess asked. “didn’t the whole school come to pay their repescts.”
I nodded and Cadence furrowed his eyebrows. “But she;s out of high school.”
Jess gives him a look. “She was a legend, everybody knew her, without actually meeting her. Like I said, that was just Dorothy, she never had to try.”
“Never ever,” I say softly.
Cadence shakes his head. “Now that is one of the strangest. How can a girl, be so known, so popular, so loved, just have everything handed to her? I’m not being rude or anything, but your family wasn’t that rich, they barely lifted a finger to help you at the hosptial, nor did they chase after you after you left the police station.”
I nod as he continues. “I don’t know, don’t you just find that a little strange? What made her so…perfect? Because I don’t think just being the queen B will grant you all the things she’s been given, it’s like something else.”
Jess and I nod, catching on. “You think she did something? Anything?”
“I can bet.” Cadence says. “Like you said Jess, she was a legend. But what made her a legend?”
“She did a lot of crazy stuff throughout her whole life, especially in school.” I offer.
“What if what she did was kept secret, or only a few people knew.” Jess says.
“Then how did everyone else find out?” I ask.
Jess shrugs. “Nobody can resist such good gossip, someone leaked the news and it spread like wildfire.”
“Then how do we not know?” I asked.
This time Cadence answered. “Dorothy usually finds a way for anything, in your visions, how she roughhoused Serache, maybe she did the whole school.”
“She couldn’t have been that powerful!”
Jess looks at me, patting my arm. “She always was, sweetie.”

Hi. My name is Jake Gartner, and right now, basically a huge mutant serpent is coming to andorinha me whole, tear me to pieces of flesh, so I have no time to talk right now. Oh, um...you want to follow me? Sure, just accept that everyday will be the best of the thrills. Right now, we are not getting any help from the immortal world, so just know that we have a horrible system of magic right now, and we have an extremely low supply of weapons, thus, the chance that you will get out of this mess is around eighty-six percent. (because of me, the master of war) Oh yeah, the serpent. Enough talk. (ROARS) Off to kill a mutant serpent!!! (stabs, deflects, cuts a gash in its head, dies) That's only our first one, trainee. Whatever your name is. seguinte time, I invite you to cadastrar-se with us on our battle. And it will be even mais life-consuming, if you know what that means.
I walk into
The Fields of Sorrow
Once again.
Why do I walk there
Almost everyday?
I stroll along the grasses
Thinking
Bearing a horrible pain.
I think of the world around me
And how much they have inspired me.
I start to cry once again.
All my teachers
All my friends,
They have always stood por me,
When things went wrong.
I want a chance to repay them,
To show them that...
Their work was useful.
To show them that
I am truly thankful.
Why do I have to leave them then
Now?
No, now's not a good time.
But I know it was not intended
That I leave them now.
I want to show all those people
That they have been
The change of my life,
That they have made my life so much
Better,
That they were the flames
In the darkness.
The Fields of Sorrow
Once again.
