- There are maybe a few dolls of her. Other than that no merch.
- No back story in the show
- Not even in seasons 4 and 6
- Unknown birthday and place of birth...and age
- Hardly any fanart in comparison to the buttload of fanart of the other characters (which indicates a small fanbase)
- Hardly any fanfics in comparison to the other characters (also a red flag of a small fanbase)
- Often forgotten in favorite character/prettiest character polls here on fanpop
- Not as many polls about her on fanpop in general in comparison
Honestly it's just a few of us vocal fans that make her seem like she's got a large fanbase. Pretty much all the polls I've made are Icy related. I've been told that I make up a good chunk of the Icy fanfics on fanfic.net...
Overrated has nothing to do with liking a character or disliking him or her. Liking doesn't mean underrated, dislike doesn't mean overrated an the reverse.
Overrated (and underrated) also doesn't mean 'bad character'.
Overrated/underrated is simply referring to how much hype the character receives.
By exact definition; overrated: have a higher opinion of (someone or something) than is deserved. And this is very subjective; the amount of likability is different to every person really. For instance I think Bloom is overrated, but other's don't. So in the end is there really even a such thing as overrated at all? I mean if someone somewhere thinks the character earned the recognition they have then it's true...at least for the characters fanbase.
And then you factor in attention. Icy gets little to none. All the other Winx characters have a bootyton of fanart and fanfics...I have to sower the deepweb to find any fanart of Icy I haven't seen. I can totally agree then she gets more attention than Darcy and Stormy but she's still mostly cast aside by both the writer and the fans (especially on tumblr). I guess she's overrated...but only when you put her up against Darcy and Stormy. Even then I personally think she deserves the love that she gets; she's a great character with so much potential.
On top of that I have seen so much more Icy hate across the net than I have love. On YouTube everyone is bashing her and if you defend her you get shot down and personally attacked. Back on my first year on this site the hate for her was insane. When I was about 10 I was on this silly blog site and people spammed the pictures of her with hate. Heck, on fanfic I had a Frozen fan say they hated my Frozen/Winx crossover because I 'paired Elsa with the worst character on Winx'. Fanpop really is the only site I've been on where Icy doesn't get hate every other sentence.
I hope that didn't sound rude or anything.
Just because you may see Icy get some more attention here does not mean she's overrated. Quite the contrary. As Zannie mentioned, YouTube is basically a breeding ground for people who will attack you and call you the worst things imaginable if you even attempt to say you like a member of the Trix better than a the Winx.
I think the only reason people might think she's getting a lot of attention on here, is because of fans who call attention to her: mainly zanhar1. Like she mentioned, it's rare for any of the witches to get decent fan art and fanfics. The user I've seen most consistent with art for any of the girls is Zoratrix on deviantART. Other than that, there's not much to see.
I've rarely come across any good stories where the witches have been portrayed in a positive manner, or more-so than cheap villains or plot devices. zanhar1 is the user I've seen publish the most when it comes to deeper more mature theme stories involving the Trix or Icy.
And like Zannie also mentioned, there's hardly any use of the three canonically outside of the show. When Winx was huge over here in the states, the most merchandise that the witches got was only of Icy--and even then she had two dolls (both of which looked identical except one had eyelashes while the other did not) and a mini figurine. That's about all I can remember.
However, 4kids did try and give them something more when they were dubbing the show. They made a ballin' song for them "Mean Girls" and had little shorts in-between commercials. Mattel even included a little DVD introducing them with their very first line of dolls. The information clashes with all other forms of the show, but at least they had the curtsey to give us that (the witches portion of the DVD included where their powers came from/how they were generated which is more than all 5 seasons of their television existence has given us).
I personally think over-rated means "over exposure" and "over hyped"--in which case, does not fit any of the sisters.
No lie. The YouTube fans made me embarrassed to be a Winx fan. I've been called some pretty...colorful things for just having Icy as my icon...

This is another thing. If you take the already slim number of Icy fics out there and then subtract all of the negative, 'Icy's-so-horrid-omg' fics the number is even slimmer.

And on top of that my mom looked all over the place for the dolls but had trouble finding them. It took a while and she finally found one hidden behind a row of Stella dolls. I remember vividly my excitement because there were only two left; either Icy was a fast seller or they only made a few.

@Romy Tbh on here I've (lately) I haven't seen too much hate on any of the characters, which is kind of cool.

when really if feels like she's a bratty teenager having a temper tantrum?
I also think it depends very heavily on the dub you watch. Seasons 1-3 Icy (when 4kids had the show), she was awesome. Her character had so much room to be more than what Iginoi had done.
TBH I don't even like season 5-6 Icy (when Nick got the show). It is so hard to make me dislike a character I love very much, but Iginoi did the thing. I can definitely see where you get the tantrum thing from watching the Nick dub, that's why I didn't like Nick's version of her.
But season 1 Icy, she was a very different character then. Honestly I like to pretend that Winx ended at season 3.

My opinion on Bloom isn't any different either.In fact I think that she is the worst main character from a cartoon that I have ever seen.

I have to admit that she is a much better villain than her sisters,Lord Darker,Tritannus,Selina and Acheron but she is still bad compared to the Ancestral Witches,The Wizards of The Black Circle and Valtor.
Personally I think the trix are great. Villains season 3+ suck. The Wizards were alright but as lovebaltor said over on her article they got taken down by a first year. The Ancestral Witches didn't do much, and the thing they did do (freezing Sparks) was undone. Valtor is up there too, he's a good villain but I've simply always been partial to the Trix. They summed the Army of Decay. Icy was also able to put Sky in a 100 year sleep, but Bloom used her Super Sue powers to cheat and wake him up.
Which is another thing. Aside from Winx being a children's show. The writer just as such a bais for his main characters he never gives his baddies a chance. They win maybe like twice but his love for Bloom overpowers them every time. He tends to write these ridiculous deus ex machinas. These miraculous last minute plot twists that aid the Winx in winning. Basically it seems like Inigoi purposely writes pretty much all his villains to a disadvantage.
The fact that it's a children's show also doesn't help. They have to censor the hell out of everything. Many of Icy's powerful attacks have to miss because they'd be deemed to violent for children. Imagine if they let her ice darts hit. Imagine if they let her ice spikes hit. But they can't really do that (especially now that Nick has the show) because--let's be real--impalement is kind of morbid. Anime, for example, can get away with it, they can show blood. Winx simply isn't going to do that. So instead they dumb their villains down. As SilentForce stated on a different poll; this is a 21st century cartoon, of course they're gonna censor it
Seriously I don't think that people know what overrated means. Dislike =/= Overrated. Like =/= Underrated. Annoying/boring/stupid =/= Overrated.

Dardy is much better than her and deserves more attention
2.Fans always act like she is the most powerful of the Trix when in fact she is the weakest.
So her powers are ice?BIG DEAL,Winx has two members that have powers that are superior to ice:Bloom(fire)and Stella(sun)which means that Icy could never win against these two.Darcy on the other hand has much cooler powers like darkness,illusions,making people blind and even mind control.Stormy's storm manipulations powers are also much better.
3.Fans act like she is superior to all the other Winx Club villains even though she always gets her ass kicked by Bloom just like every other villains
4.There are other villains that are much better than her
Valtor,Darcy,Ogron,Lord Darkar and Selina.
If that's the case then you really can't say that Icy gets more of a hype or a fan following.
2. Of course fans are going to say such as they are fans. I don't see how Bloom and Stella beating her prove anything; they beat everyone. Because Bloom is an over powered super-sue. I'd also like to bring up that Icy almost beat her on a few occasions (single handedly) however intervention from the other 5 ruined it. The fact that they put her up against 'the most powerful character in the show' is also saying something since usually in shows they pit the most powerful villain against the most powerful good guy. It's also a matter of opinion as to who has the neatest powers; frankly I think Icy tops that one. I don't mean to knock Darcy because I like her well enough--but come on a villain with darkness, like that hasn't been done before. Also, remember when it was shown that she has the ability to knock people into a 100+ year sleep? Because I do.
3. Again of course fans are going to say this because they are fans. What do you want them to do, hate her on every occasion and claim to like her? And yeah she is way better than Darkar who sat on his ass the whole time and then got his ass kicked. She's better than Tritannus who was just a whiney little boy throwing a tantrum. She's better than what's his name form the Legindarium who didn't do shit until the very end and then got defeated. At least Icy was an active part of her plans the whole time. At least she did something. And to say she got her ass kicked by Bloom isn't even entirely true. She'd won a couple of times. And until the very end Bloom never even kicked her ass--it was always Bloom + her friends, Bloom + some other character, and/or Bloom + miraculous plot twist. Of course Icy isn't going to win a like 6 or 1 battle, that's crazy. Not to mention the Winx always have 'the latest transformation' and all of the trix have that for one episode and then it's gone. The villains in Winx are always at a disadvantage all the time. I haven't seen the wizards so I can't speak for them. Icy pretty much has Darcy and Stormy on a leash, they lose more than she and they also lost faster in season 1's finale. Valtor is probably the only one who gives her competition. Selenia was just Icy's pawn.

Sorry but not sorry, if you didn't throw in all the 'she got her ass kicked' and 'big deal' and 'fans always act like.' I probably wouldn't have been so harsh myself. But honestly I'm getting sick of people using overrated without knowing fully what it means. I will give you credit though for giving reasons other than 'I don't like her'.
