the office Flaws in the show (add all the flaws you have noticed!)

Temptasia posted on Oct 16, 2007 at 06:40PM
In the "Boys and Girls" Episode in the Warehouse we see a sign that says 936 days without an accident and then Madge erases it and brings down to 0 again. But in the "Safety Training" Episode Darryl says they have never gone a full year without an accident. Did anyone else notice this?

also in "A Benihana Christmas" Creed is seen in the opening and says that it is crazy to eat the goose, then in the nex scene you see him come in and take a toy from the collection, lol.

That's really interesting I had never noticed!

Wow, you guys are on top of things. I am still stunned that I didn't notice John Krasinski signed his real name on Meredith's cast. :D
over a year ago Ross266 said…
i noticed that after realizing halpert wasnt that long and didnt start with a "K" lol
over a year ago ccarter219 said…
I thought he wrote "Krasinki"!!

Thanks

I think the Benihana situation is two different days.

I think the cold opens are shorts of other days(just my opinion).

For example, in the cold open where Jim poses as Dwight, he doesn't stay that way throughout the episode.
over a year ago bradlybob said…
Ok, would you stay that way for the rest of the day! HA

I thought his signature looked too long for Jim Halpert too but I thought I was just imagining it.
I'm going to have to start watching for things like that. They're probably doing it on purpose to see if we notice.

I actually noticed a slight flaw in "Money."

We are supposed to believe that Pam and Jim were able to go home after 5 pm and change clothes and pack, get to the Schrute Farm (which is at least 30 minutes from Scranton) and it was still bright and sunny as they get a tour of the barn, watch Dwight make a table, etc. I don't think so. The sun would have started to go down by the time they got there. :D However, I forgive them for this slight flaw because it was so much fun to watch.

maybe they did that during the weekend and then got back on monday
all tired and all that
but i dunno
over a year ago chel1395 said…
I debated that, but it doesn't work. Kevin says that everyone needs to go see his band THAT NIGHT and the next day he's mad that no one went to see his band. That means only one night has passed between Pam and Jim booking their stay at Schrute Farms and the next time we see them at the office.

Maybe Jim and Pam left early? And Dwight? Michael's the kin of boss that would let them.
over a year ago cycle-of-menace said…
I was thinking about that two. And I was thinking that maybe it was on a Friday that they did that and maybe went on Saturday, but as mentioned, Kevin had his band thing.
But I do think they could have left early. It looked like Michael left early in the episode anyway to go to his second job, so without him there everyone just left.

when you listen to the commentaries on the dvds they tell you that they often dont shoot the cold opens specifically for that episode so then they use them and other scenes they had previous shot and not used for the cold opens...

sometimes you can see that they have different outfits on...or they reenter the office

another mistake example- at the end of the negotiation andy returns from anger management and dwight pepper sprays him, but then in the next episode (safety training), andy returns like it is his first time back in the office
over a year ago Ross266 said…
This isnt so much a flaw as an interesting turn of events. In "Casino Night" Dwight says he'd never EVER serve Jim, not in a "million billion" years, but in "Money" everything has changed. I like to think that they're relationship has much improved since then though

Did anyone else notice that when Micheal excludes Phylis as the resident senior and she says you and I are the same age and he said september is usually the cut off date but the episode named Micheals Birthday is taped in April.
over a year ago Ross266 said…
just because its taped in April doesnt mean it's suppose to take place in April
over a year ago absolutely_i_do said…
michael scott's birthday is march 15
("wow, it's so sad that i know that" -jim lol)

he probably just said that bc he didn't know what else to say to make it seem like he was not the same age as her.

Another flaw is that in the episode where they celebrate Meredith's birthday Jim says Meredith is an accountant in what he writes in her card, but in the episode where they have to fire someone one of the accountant (can't remember who off hand) says there are 3 people doing work that could be done by 2 in their department. I am assuming they are talking about Angela, Kevin, and Oscar. So what does Meredith do?
over a year ago jammers13 said…
Yeah what the hell does she do? Creed too, anyone know what he does?

As far as flaws go, I saw a palm tree in the backround of the parking lot once, but I can't remember what episode... I think it was in season three.
over a year ago Temptasia said…
Creed is quality insurance. Remember the episode Product Recall where he was supposed to go to the plant and check out the paper and didn't and then the paper was sent out with the obscene watermark?
over a year ago rascottcg said…
According to The Office's Wikipedia, Meredith job is "Supplier Relations/Purchasing." It is also mentioned in the episode "Boys and Girls" in season 2.

WHAT about this one: Jim in Money asks Pam if she remembers what she said to him when she walked him over to his desk on his first day. I was re-watching The Secret the other day and Jim said, "I had a crush on you when you first started working here"...who started first?

Another thing I noticed on branch wars was Michael's dummy's hand wnet down to push the play button when someone opened the door, but how did it get turned off. We don't hear it when the door is closed.
over a year ago tyleroffice4 said…
i think Jim and there a lot a flaws but the writers think that we wont noticed that but we are all addicted so... and i think for both warehouse scene it was a joke mostly the Daryll one
over a year ago IndianKelly said…
What about all the employees who appear in the background of Season 1 and 2. Where have they all gone?
over a year ago Temptasia said…
Also Pam says she is not a cat person, but in the pilot episode pam has a calender with cats on it behind her desk.
over a year ago esther88 said…
I have a couple that I know of.
1) In the client when they show Dwight's name in the script if you read the lines above that line you realize that it does not match what they were saying.
2) In one of the scenes in drug testing you see a picture of the office that was taken in conflict resolution that hadn't happend yet.
over a year ago Temptasia said…
Wow, those are 2 good ones. I never noticed those!

Also why did Michael write a check to Oscar for the CP walk for his nephew on the same day he pledged the money. Isn't the nephew supposed to walk first?
over a year ago bstens said…
Michael wrote the check because he thought it was just one payment. Oscar should have said something though.
over a year ago Temptasia said…
No, that was after he told him it was per mile. He even asked him how many miles his nephew walked last year. He was saying how it was a sizable donation and he asked oscar not to cash it until friday.

Here's one: In the episode that features Harvey The Computer, the things Michae is supposedly typing for Harvey to say all appear on the screen before he is done typing.

For example, you can see the word "boobs" at the end of the screen, when Michael is accidentally typing offive, even though Harvey doesn't say it until Pam and Jim leave the office.
over a year ago absolutely_i_do said…
ok here's some others i noticed. . .

first michael makes fun of and can't use the blackberry properly, but in back in the episode "the fight" it looks like he has a blackberry.

so idk if its not really a blackberry or he just acts like he doesnt like/know how to use it bc of ryan

probably not a mistake but...
also i think it might be a deleted scene but when michael talks to the coal mine guy about his "ride" im pretty sure he calls him "craiggers" which i believe is later one of the other managers.... now i dont remember if that was the other managers last name or whatever or michael just calls anyone whos name is craig or similar to craig "craiggers"
over a year ago CharmedAngel88 said…
Okay, I'm not sure if this one will count as a flaw or not.

I guess I should say that below is sort of a "Spoiler".

But on tonight's episode Angela told Jim that it's "Birthday Month" and that Meredith's birhtday is at the end of the month. The birthday's before hers are Kelly, Creed, and Oscar.

So in "The Alliance" when Michael wanted to celebrate someone's birthday and Pam said that the birthday that was coming up closest was Meredith's but not until the next month. Does it really make sense if she's part of "Birthday Month" and has three birthdays before hers?
over a year ago Ross266 said…
plus that would have meant Toby's was the month before, but he wasn't really an established character yet
over a year ago CharmedAngel88 said…
Oh, that's a good point! I never even thought of that.
over a year ago llerenaprincipe said…
yeah
good point
i was thinking about that but id din't do the math :P

Yo, I can't believe nobody has mentioned the fact that in Meredith's birthday episode Dwight says that she has "two kids" when, in fact, in all other episodes, she only has one.
over a year ago Kurt_Crentist said…
oo i have one, Dwight says to Andy that he owns a 87' Pontiac Firebird during their arguement in the elevator but remember that phone number they give you during the Flasher episode. Well if you call it Dwight says that its an 85'kickass firebird.
over a year ago Ross266 said…
No, Merideth has two kids. Jake is the boy and "the good one" (not sure on a name) is a girl. She only has custody of Jake though, so when she says, in a deleted scene of "Drug Testing," "Oh no, are they taking away my kid?" she is refering to Jake because he's the one she has custody of.

On the topic of Dwight's car, since the Pilot episode his car has changed from 1978 280Z to a 1987 Pontiac Firebird

also... did anyone notice that the outside of the office and the parking lot is different in season one. . . they dont show it much but i couldn't tell if it really was a different building, or just they way they were shooting it.
over a year ago goalstopper said…
On beach day, Toby gives pam sunscreen because he isn't going and Pam says that's great i am wearing a two piece. maybe she was but we never saw that two piece. even when she was sitting in the sun. I guess Pam knows that Toby like her and just wanted to tease him.

um, isnt meredith allergic to dairy or sumthing but in the most recent episode she wants a normal cake, but i thought she was allergic? am i rite or is she allergic to sumthing different, coz in 'the alliance' in the first season she cant have the icecream cake for her surprise birthday, and also in this new episode,it was a birthday month, also in 'the alliance', the next birthday is merediths, but in this episode there are like 2 or 3 birthdays before hers so... is that a flaw?
over a year ago marissa said…
yeah, i thought of that.

she's allergic to dairy,b ut doesnt devil's food cake have dairy in it?

i also noticed the birthday thing...
maybe there were no birthday's the previous month and merideth's was first the next month, or "birthday month"? maybe thats why the celebrated it in the allience and not everyone else's?

Someone had brought up who worked there first, Pam or Jim. If anyone watched some of the convention they admitted that they had said Jim in one episode and Pam in another. They did say, however, that they believe Pam did start first. So there definately was a mistake (in boys and girls, I think).

Also, season 1 was shot in an actual office. After that they recreated the office using a set. So it's very possible that the outside of the building was different. I never noticed though. I'll have to check that out.
over a year ago absolutely_i_do said…
oh yea your are right i completely forgot it was an office in season 1. . yea and they don't show the outside too much, but it is in a couple deleted scenes
