Six-year-old Brittney Beers was last seen on September 16, 1997 in Sturgis, Michigan. She went to ride her bike at approximately 7:30 p.m. that night. Her mother, Tina Stetler left run errands at approximately 8:30 p.m. and saw Brittney riding her bike around the neighborhood at the time.

Her half-brother told the police that he saw Brittney sitting on a bench five minutes after Tina left. A witness said that he saw Brittney talking to an unidentified male who was driving a red or brown mid-size car shortly afterwards. Brittney told the witness that she "made a new friend." Tina came home from running errands at approximately 9:05 p.m. and asked Brittney's brother to find her, but when she couldn't be found, the police were notified. Brittney's bike was found abandoned shortly after she was last seen.

A year later, Brittney's older brother and younger sister were removed from their home after allegations of physical abuse, sexual abuse and neglect were made. Her father, Raymond, Raymond's brother, James and Kevin Folsom (the father of one of her half-brothers) were allegedly involved in abusing the kids. Kevin was incarcerated for molesting Brittney, but he was released from prison in 2008.

In 2000, a man from St. Clair Shores, Michigan was arrested for having child pornography images saved onto his computer and one of the victims resembled Brittney, but it was later determined that the girl wasn't her.

In 2015, a man named Daniel Furlong was named as a person of interest in Brittney's disappearance. In 2007, he raped and murdered an eleven-year-old girl, but he wasn't charged with the crime until 2015. Has has maintained his innocence in Brittney's disappearance.

Brittney's case is classified as an endangered missing person.
