Can someone explain to me why Katniss would have a British accent?

I've noticed some people have said she should, but I can't really see how that makes sense at all. If the people of Panem are decendents of North Americans, I don't understand why they'd suddenly develop British accents.

For me it's kind of like saying oooh Harry potter is British, but let's make him have an American accent even if it doesn't make any sense what so ever.

I don't know... Maybe I missed something in the series when I read it saying that Katniss is magically British :/ I still don't see the logic behind it. :/

No I don't have anything against the British I just think that it's not a good idea. I have a certain way Katniss is pictured in my mind and I'm really hoping that's how she turns out. Or close to it.
