i really don't like how he always seems to look down upon himself, judge himself..he gotta understand that nobody's perfect..
Dean, we love you just the way you are, don't put yourself down!

linalin picked putting Sammy on a pedestal:
When he puts Sam on a pedestal it doesn't allow much room for Sam to make a mistake, and then Dean gets really mad and we don't understand where Sam is coming from...

I find it a bit annoying that Dean can't engage into a serious conversation with Sam and therefore always has to make a joke.I don't consider the rest of the choices as flaws except the lack of self-esteem.I don't think Dean has lack of self-esteem but that he loathes himself because his dad sacrificed his life for him and because he hates to be the one who has to kill Sammy according to John.

duckey94 picked hidding his feelings:
I think he avoids serious conversation because he wants to hide his feelings. He's afraid of being open with someone and then being betrayed. And, really, what else do we expect? He never knew his mother, he never could get to know very many people to consider them 'friends', and John certainly didn't seem like the touchy-feely type. He probably thought he couldn't share those things with Sam since he had to be the strong big brother.

I agree with toti8, I think his self-esteem is as good as can be expected. Of course he's upset with himself for torturing the souls in Hell, I don't call that a self-esteem problem.

This has always been the thing that really bugged me about Dean. Being John's helping hand never gave him the opportunity to reveal who he really is. Even his cassette collection is the music John liked. When John died, Dean had to become the leader but how can you become one when for all your life you have been living in the shadow of someone else?

That's where I agree with linalin that Dean constantly puts Sam on a pedestal and why he acts like a martyr all the time.

SG1-090 picked lack of self-esteem:
He thinks he's worthless. Not only is that completely and totally wrong but it makes him do certain things that he shouldn't because he thinks he doesn't deserve to be happy or helped by anyone.

like SG1-090 dean thinks he's worthless.....this is why i believe that he puts sam on a pedestal and is a martyr.....he doesn't think he's worth saveing therefore he thinks that it's fine 2 toss his life away.

fanfly picked lack of self-esteem:
The root of Dean's problems is that he's always had low self-esteem. His father taught him that his only worth was being "Daddy's blunt little instrument" so that he could protect Sam. From Season 1 Dean's sense of worthlessness has been hinted at. It's why he developed his smart-ass self defense mechanism in the first place. It's why he martyrs himself and puts Sam on a pedestal and hides his feelings.

And in Season 4 he's practically crippled with his low self-esteem. He's rescued from Hell but he doesn't think he deserves it because of what he did down there. He feels more worthless than ever and even though he tries to lift himself up with the thought that God has chosen him for some greater purpose, his innate skepticism and self-loathing just keeps dragging him back down. And he sees nothing in himself to make him believe that he's capable of something great. Then of course he learns that he broke the first seal and the whole apocalypse is his fault. Watching Dean in Season 4 is like watching a bug being slowly crushed. By the time Lucifer Rising rolls around, his guts have been smeared across the floor.

Dean is so terrified of being hurt that he hides his feelings but the problem is, Sam still hurts him anyways. Sam's blood problem is messing Dean up more than it's messing Sam up. John put way too much pressure on Dean to take care of Sam, Dean has to feel as if he needs to be the strong one in order to carry out this order.

Everything Dean does is for Sam and i think (possibly) that hidding his feelings has more to do with Sam than anything else.

So maybe Dean's biggest flaw is his intense love for Sam. It sounds horrible but maybe he wouldn't be so tortured if Sam wasn't so... needy. (I still love you Sammy)

kuykendall picked Being to risky at times.:
He's way to risky sometimes, when he thinks he has to do something he does it wheather thinking the situation over or not. I mean being to risky can be extremely dangerous, so I choose Being to risky at times.

the reason i choose this is because I think dean does have a tendancy to expect too much from sam, whether he exspects good, bad etc. Without thinking I believe he treats sam the same way their father did.

Dean's issues break my heart, and that makes me love him all the more! *hugs Dean*

I also think there should've been an option for loving Sammy too much!! In a positive way of course! LOL

Most of the time, I just wanna slap him upside the head and say, "C'mon, Dean, spit it out!"

Actually, I DO say that a lot to the TV, I just don't slap it, is all.
