sobrenatural Did YED use his drops of blood only as a tracker for the special kids in order for him to be able to tell years later that they were his?

i'm thinking that's why Sammy didn't need a feather to fly..remember In The Beginning YED wondered if Dean was one of his and seemed to sniff him and then decided Dean wasn't...maybe he could smell that drop of blood he puts in them as a baby and it has absolutely nothing to do with their gifts..Sam had it in him all along and that's what caused YED to mark him...and maybe if Sam hadn't fought his talent he would of realized that and wouldn't of been suckered so easily by Ruby

and dude! that's a good point :| I have no idea .. it seems likely though! maybe, it was a tracker AND a power thing? know what I mean? :\ it like kick started his powers and such .. and it made them easier to use? or whatever. haha. <3

I really think that thay was why Sam was gifted. Mutations like that wouldn't just start with him. There would have been hints of it throughout the history of his family. I think that would have been noticed by the Winchesters long before that. I also think that YED was altering the state of Sam. The blood made him a little bit demon and by him embracing it it made it jump out more. Like Ruby said it was already in him, he just needed help using it. When children are young they are still developing so the blood that YED gave to him altered the maturation of Sam biologically. I think that because Ruby was giving him blood while he was fully developed is why it wasn't affecting him. His mental state was all that was in his way prior to Ruby. Now I feel like I am rambling.

I don't think so, cuase how could the children have powers if it had nothing to do with the blood, and how could they 'be' YED's if he hadn't done anything to them? And... I just stick with Mel on the rest(:

only a tracker? Nah i think what Ruby meant was he didn't need her blood though i'm still not quite sure what she meant. But i don't think any of the special kids would have powers without YED's blood - that just doesn't make sense to me.

I agree with Lucy, it was most probably a tracker, like contrast we use for certain medical exams...

Remember the YED smelling Dean as he was yummily plastered on that wall, In The Beginning? He said: "You're not one of mine..."

I believe Sam and the blood wasn't properly explained, but I will go on a limb here and say that the blood is like an activator, or placebo...

I really missed you, Lucy!!

I´m confused!I don´t know which opinion to follow because both are very plausible! You people are such good debaters!!!!I agree with SG1-090 concerning the fact that Ruby meant that Sam didn´t need her blood but the other opinions also make sense.

I think that when YED smelled Dean in In the Beginning he was checking to see if he smelled his blood, genetics, in Dean. It wasn't there so he knew he wasn't one of HIS children. While the blood marked the children with his blood I think that was just a by product of the process. I think that it is like they are his children and he can sence his blood in them, not person persay but himself in them.

Great theory, Lucy!! I agree that the blood was a marker, but it was also the source of Sam's and the other kids' powers. YED!Samuel also said to Dean that "Demon blood is better than Ovaltine, vitamins, minerals - it makes you big and strong." I also agree with tinkymel on the other points. :))

*sigh* A Lucy question! Just like the old days!! lol, hurry back!! :DDD

I considered this idea before, but I think the S4 demon blood storyline disproves it.
