has finally been renewed for a second season, and we can\'t wait to see where the Duffer Brothers take the series on its second outing.
And while details on season two are sparse at this early stage, we do know the names for each of the nine episodes that will be arriving next year.
In the absence of any solid info then, we thought we\'d take this opportunity to make some educated guesses (*cough* speculation) on what each of the forthcoming episodes will hold for the
If you haven\'t seen the first season yet, be warned, there are spoilers ahead.
Can you name these obscure Game of Thrones characters?
The only episode of season two not to start with "The".
is more than obvious. The film, of course, is set in a dystopian future, while the show is set firmly in the past (1983 to be exact). But, there\'s certainly something dystopian about
Could this mean one of the gang ventures into the Upside Down right out of the gate? Does Chief Hopper turn his back on law enforcement, in an act reminiscent of the original Max Rockatansky?
No, probably not. We\'ve heard a new character named Max is being introduced, so that seems like the more reasonable explanation.
reference is hinting at, we hope it doesn\'t mean a Mel Gibson cameo.
This one seems pretty obvious at first glance. Last season saw the vanished Will Byers return from the Upside Down after a season-long hunt. But before he could make it back to the meticulously recreated world of 1980s middle America, he had to be resuscitated by his mother and Chief Hopper.
As such it would make sense for this episode to focus on Will, the boy who came back to life and who seems to be experiencing some, shall we say, residual effects following his traumatic experience.
But we can\'t help but wonder whether this title in fact refers to the heroic Eleven, who sacrificed herself to save the central gang from the Demogorgon in the final episode.
Sure, Eleven is a girl, but with that shaved head perhaps one of the townsfolk of Hawkins, Indiana catches a glimpse of a resurrected Eleven and mistakes her for a boy. It might be wishful thinking, but we have a feeling we haven\'t seen the last of her just yet.
Perhaps the most ambiguous of the new titles, we\'re sure this genial-sounding episode will be a decidedly dark offering given the overall tone of the show.
Will this be a Halloween episode? Could the phrase \'pumpkin patch\' somehow refer to those eggs Hopper and Joyce stumbled upon in the Upside Down? We\'re definitely excited to find out, as there\'s a whole host of great halloween scenes from 80s films from which we\'re sure The Duffers will draw. We\'re thinking
The "Palace" could refer to the boys\' Dungeons and Dragons exploits, or it could be the name given to whichever government facility has taken the place of the Department of Energy from last season – gateway to the Upside Down.
And, if you recall, towards the end of season one, Chief Hopper made some sort of deal with Dr Brenner after being caught breaking into the Department of Energy building. Could he be in on whatever the government\'s plan is in the new season? And if so, perhaps this will be our first introduction to a new facility, via Hopper.
Figurative or real, we\'re sure whatever this storm is, it will bring some serious action. Perhaps this is where Will\'s "infection" begins to manifest itself, causing things to get really interesting for the population of Hawkins.
But what if this episode marks the return of Eleven? After all, she was initially discovered by the boys in a storm, so it\'s a definite possibility. Either way, we\'re expecting a lot from this one.
Turns out pollywog is another term for a tadpole, and if you remember the final episode of season one, you might recall Will coughing up a pollywog-type creature of the kind that used him as a human host during his Upside Down excursion.
We\'re expecting the little beast to run riot in episode six, then. Who will it inhabit on its rampage this time? We\'re not sure, but we hope it\'s that annoying kid that wet himself in the last season.
Okay, if Eleven hasn\'t made her return by this point, it\'s
to happen in this episode. Before last season ended, we saw Chief Hopper leave some snacks in the woods, which included Eleven\'s favourite frozen waffles. Could she be holed up in this secret cabin?
Of course, it could be a reference to some sort of hideout the boys have established... Or it could be literally anything else. We\'re kinda grasping at straws here.
Another ambiguous one, "The Brain" could, again, be a reference to Eleven and her telekinetic powers, or to whoever\'s really calling the shots for the secret government agency that started this whole mess – i.e. the brains behind the operation.
Or perhaps it\'s the name of something much worse than the Demogorgon. While we\'re sure much of season two will be concerned with the pollywog creature running amok in Hawkins, we\'re intrigued to see whether the Duffer Brothers can outdo their nightmarish beast from last season. Perhaps "The Brain" will be it...
Last time around, the lost brother was, of course, Will Byers, and we\'re sure he\'s not going missing again next season, unless The Duffers are running seriously low on ideas.
So, we\'re wondering whether things are reversed this time around, and Will\'s literal brother Jonathan is the one who needs rescuing. After all, there aren\'t any other brothers we know of in the show at this point.
But a more creepy explanation could be the Will eventually succumbs to his infection, becoming lost in the sense that he\'s been replaced by something much worse. We just scared ourselves with that one – thankfully that\'s the end of the list.
