I have been looking for a way to express my side of the Vampire Diaries shipping war, instead of just saying "I amor Stelena and I hate Delena." I think that Buffy can help me make my point. At first, the main similarity between the two triangles seems obvious. The both have a human girl involved with a (mostly) good vamp and a bad boy vamp. I think it goes deeper than that though.
First, let me say that I am a Buffy/Angel girl from way back, though I have sailed on the Buffy/Spike ship. Like Stelena, Buffy and angel have been referred to as soul mates por writers and fans, but, like Delena, Buffy/Spike also had a very solid fã base.
Like I said, there was a time when I sailed the Buffy/Spike ship. They were fun, sexy, and had chemistry. Unfortunately, they also got very dark. It even culminated in Spike tying to rape Buffy. Once he go his soul back the two of them reconciled, but eventually even Spike had to admit that, while he was in her coração (much as Elena cares about Damon), she simply did not amor him the way that he wanted her to.
Now, I don’t think that Damon would try to rape Elena, although he did force a kiss on her. However, he has done many other horrible things. He killed her brother and forced her to drink his blood, and in the book he stalked her, broke into her house, threatened her four ano old sister, and forced her to exchange blood with him.
Not to mention that Elena and Buffy both seem to gravitate towards the bad boy mainly when they are away from their soul mates and/or on a self destructive spiral. (See bloodlines, shadow souls, and season 6 of Buffy for examples of this.) Their best and happiest times are always with their soul mates. Like the bad boy couples, the soul mate couples are also fun and sexy (despite much drama). However, they also have a love, a sweetness, a devotion, and a connection that is simply not in the other couple.
Now, I amor Joss Whedon, the creator of Buffy. I think he is genius and I amor his feminist approach. However, he seems to have something against happy endings, so I don’t know if Buffy and angel ever really had a chance. I hope that we will get a happy ending in Vampire Diaries, and that Stelena doe shave a chance. If not, I should stop watching the show and leitura the books now.
So, that is my argument. The pergunta that remains is, is there any argument that can stop the writers from giving Delena fãs what they want, thereby taking away my main reason for watching the show and leitura the books?
