As we all know from Rosario + Vampire, Kurumu is a succubus. A creature who's nature is to charm men into doing her bidding. What I know from some people is that they think that a succubus is a figment of Akihisha Ikeda's imagination however this is untrue. A succubus is actually a mythical creature from the dark ages that has been occasionally encountered throughout history in various places. A succubus is a she-demon that has ascended to the mortal plane (or our world) from the anjos da noite (hell, etc.).
According to Zohar and the alphabet of Ben Sira, Lilith was Adam's first wife who later in time became a succubus. She left him and refused to return to the Garden of Eden after she'd mated with the archangel Samael. In Zoharistic Kabbalah there were four succubi that mated with the archangel, Lilith, Agrat Bat Mahlat, Naamah, and Eisheth Zenunim, and later became the four original demon queens. In later folklore they took on the form of sirens and eventually human women.
Throughout history priests and rabbis have tried to change a succubus' powers over men but have all been unsuccessful.
Contrary to popular belief that all demons are evil or malevolent not all succubi have the intent of ruining the lives or men. In De Nugis Curialium, Pope Sylvester II (999-1003) came into contact with a succubus named Meridiana who helped him achieve his high rank in the Catholic Church.
When a succubus uses her charm power (or allure) on a man and he receives a kiss from her while he is still under the power of allure he becomes her slave (essentially) for the rest of his life. Additionally if a succubus and a man have intercourse with each other the man becomes an incubus which is the counterpart of a succubus. If the succubus does have children they will be incubi unless they are females, if they are incubi they will have alternate abilities than the succubus mother. In incubi their demon nature lies dormant and if they have intercourse with a normal woman the resulting children will be roughly 90% human and 10% demon if they are males. The children do have the opportunity to use the strength of their demon part if they come in contact with the succubus that first seduced their grandfather (great-grandfather, etc.) they can gain increased physical strength and increased charisma. Whenever a succubus breeds though the chances of her having children are only about 35% and the chances of the child being a succubus is only about 40% which explains why the succubus race is low in number. If there is a successful generation after the segundo generation any female born has only a 50% chance of being a succubus but retains the succubus gene meaning that even if a human succubus is born if she does have a daughter it can still be a full fledged succubus even if the mother wasn't a full succubus. This does deny the thought that demons cannot reproduce.
Succubi are also mais or less popular in music, literature, TV, video games, and anime.
