But I don't think it's everyone's intention, and for some people definitely, to 'be mean towards you'.
I can only speak for myself;
I certainly think that asking for fans is not the way to go about getting them. Now usually when I add someone on my fanlist, they'd add me back at some point (Not saying I add people to get fans, though!! xD), so I don't see why you couldn't add a person first if you like them and you'd want them to like or get to know you.
Also, it's a lot more promising and rewarding to earn your fans. People adding you for your thoughts, opinions, actions, kind interactions or witty interactions with others is more rewarding, not to mention a lot of people may grow some respect for you because you (even unintentionally in this case if you take this advice) gained their liking and eventually friendship because you were simply being yourself, or worked for it.
It's overall much more worthwhile to have people add you because they genuinely like you, not because you asked for it.

You'll feel much more accomplished by earning them and getting to know who you can before you fan them. :)
It's just that people here get a little annoyed by these questions; they are asked so much.
