Does this character sound sympathetic?

This character is the long lost brother of the main character. When he was six years old, his parents and everyone in his immediate family, besides him and his baby brother, were killed. They escaped but they got separated and he lost his memory. He found a new family and he slowly got his memory back. He remembered his brother, after a ano or so, but he never said anything to his new family or even tried to look for him. He didn't because he was afraid that he might be dead and he didn't want to deal with the pain of losing the only family he had left like he did with his parents, older brother and older sisters. He was afraid of what might happen.

They meet again when they are 16 and 10 years old. The main character/his little brother has become a run away orphan for two years and has never stayed in one place for too long, until he came into this town and befriended his long lost brother's adoptive brother, who is the same age as him. He suspects that he is his little brother because he bares a striking resemblance to their father but doesn't say anything.

He finally tells him after knowing him for about 9 months or so. He feels terrible about all of it but his brother is mad at him. Because of him he's been in an abusive orphanage, has had a family that sent him back after they were able to have their own kids, ran away from the orphanage when he was 8 and has lived on the streets ever since, has had to steal food, doubts the existence of God, and has been all alone. All while he's been with a family that loves him.

I'm pretty sure he's not exactly sympathetic but I'm not sure exactly what to call him. What kind of a character would you describe him as?

I feel bad for the character. But I can't say if he's sympathetic. Its subjective and it depends on peoples' perspective.

How the heck is he a Mary Sue? So far he's just kept making mistakes so he's far from a Mary Sue.

i dont think you understand the meaning of the phrase "sympathetic," at all. it means to feel bad for some one, but the way you asked the question, is like asking if the character sounds sympathetic of others.

Just answer the pergunta yes or no and explain. Can no one just do something simple like that instead of trying to sound smart?

It sounds like he's made a lot of bad choices and can't seem to learn from his mistakes. It might be kind of hard for the readers to feel sorry for him if all his problems are because of his own doing.
