I don't know what went wrong but it sounds like you need to buy a new Wii remote.

It's just because it's not synced up to the wii. It's not broken at all. It's -meant- to do that. It shuts off if it doesn't notice there's something for it to connect to to save batteries and all that.

well if you are sure it's not the batteries ok..try this
see the red button that says sync on it
prESS IT

If it's doing that, it cannot get a signal from the Wii, try resetting the remote and the Wii.

if not, try resyncing it,

to do this, at the front of the Wii there is a flap, open that and take the back of the remote off, the press the small re button on the wii, then press the small red button on the remote. That should sync the remote and the wii.

If neither of those things works, you might need to buy a new one.
