You know, I understand exactly the problem with Derpy. And not just on the fanbase's side, but for the writer of the episode which showed Derpy's side. The writers added in Derpy as a tip of the hat to fans, name, eyes and all. Except she didn't like how the word "derpy" can be connected with "retarded" due to her own son being retarded, I believe. It made her feel awful so she took it out, replacing the scene so Derpy wouldn't be called such, her voice is not as odd, and her eyes are straight. She did what had to be done in her perspective, and either way, some fãs would be displeased. We have to respect what the writers gave us even for the time being. We as bronies should be THANKFUL they gave us Derpy at all, not constantly mourning her as if she just died on the show or something. She was simply changed, even if it isn't the best changed (I hate her voice, really).
All in all, I do not dwell on it too much, and nobody else should. It's not like they took her character away forever, including taking her off those shirts I see at Hot Topic. She is still a popular character, and the least Studio B can say is that they tried to be supportive of the fãs and give us a character so many desired. I, at the time, wasn't a fan, so I can't really sympathize; nonetheless, I looked into it and do firmly believe that no one is to blame and we shouldn't be too bothered por "saving Derpy," because she doesn't need to be saved.
